Rāmava brings together the history of Depkina Manor House and a landscaped park where old trees, rare plants and a stream shape the character of the landscape. Visitors who value cultural history and designed landscapes on the same trip will find two different perspectives on the place. At its heart is Rāmava-Depkina Manor House.

Manor House and Cultural History

The manor house is a restored two-storey wooden building and a cultural monument of national significance. Its construction and two storeys give the house a distinctive architectural character; its monument status also identifies it as cultural heritage. Architecture and historical significance thus offer two distinct ways of viewing the same building.

Garlībs Merķelis lived in the manor house from 1808 to 1850. This period of residence anchors the building’s history to a specific person and a precisely defined timeframe. A memorial stone to P. Lejiņš stands next to the manor house. It adds a separate place of remembrance to the biographical connection. Visitors primarily interested in history can therefore consider the house’s architectural classification, Merķelis’ period of residence and the nearby monument as distinct points of reference.

Landscape Park and Orientation

The landscape park is characterised by several rare plant species and a small stream. It also features historic trees, including particularly large and remarkable specimens. The plants, stream and trees give the park different accents: rare species and water define its natural side, while the old trees also make the site’s historical character visible.

The designed features are also clearly identified. The pond sluices and pedestrian bridge in the park have been restored; a path surfaced with pebbles leads from the bridge to the manor house entrance. This creates a clear route from the bridge to the house, while the sluices form another restored feature in the park. Two types of features come together in the park: plants, the stream and trees shape its natural side, while the bridge and pond sluices shape its designed side.

At the local level, the Olekte River flows through Rāmava. It adds a connection to the manor house’s surroundings to the landscape perspective.

Accommodation and Visit Planning

Twelve rooms of different sizes are available for overnight stays at Rāmavas (Depkina) Manor House. The different sizes provide a practical basis for choosing: before booking, ask for details about the rooms you are considering and confirm availability directly.

The house also offers rooms for seminars, holiday camps, celebrations and photo shoots. These options address a different planning question than the overnight rooms: is your visit about a stay, or about using a room for a particular occasion? Arrange the necessary details directly.

Guided tours of Rāmava-Depkina Manor House are available by prior arrangement. If a guided tour is important to your visit, contact the manor in advance and confirm your preferred time before finalising your plans.
