Along the Shulba Reservoir, a long rocky shoreline stretches beside the mountains. Together with forests, rivers, and historic sites, it shapes the character of Borodulikha District. For trip planning, specific location details are helpful: recreation bases by the reservoir and in the pine forest are at different distances from the district center, while museums, memorials, and archaeological sites offer further insights into the area.
Plan your stay by location
The Zhanay and Nursultan recreation bases are by the Shulba Reservoir in the rural district of Zhernovskiy, 65 kilometers from the district center of Borodulikha. In the Zhernovskie Lakes area, the Adal company’s recreation base is located in a relict ribbon pine forest; it is 35 kilometers from the district center. The stated distances differ by 30 kilometers and offer two distinct landscape settings: the reservoir shore or a forest area. When searching, first consider which surroundings matter more for your trip. Before traveling, check the current status of each base and the access conditions.
Water, forests, and excursions
Mountains border the Shulba Reservoir, whose shoreline is long and rocky. A beach at Lake Bolshoe in the village of Borodulikha is used for public recreation. Swimming and access conditions may change, so you should check the local situation before visiting. The district’s landscape also includes mountains, forests, and rivers.
Excursions by the reservoir also involve a variety of activities. A visit described in 2019 included a motorboat, horseback riding along the shore, and fish soup cooked over a campfire. These experiences relate to a single excursion; ask in advance whether similar activities are currently offered. A climb up the Mohnatukha Ridge was not easy on one described excursion, and offered views of the reservoir, fields, trees, and grassland. Check trail conditions locally. A hiking and horseback-riding trail by the Shulba and a tourist-ecological trail near Uba-Forpost were also discussed as proposals. Check in advance whether these routes can currently be used.
Culture and history of the district
The House of Friendship hosts recurring cultural events representing Kazakh, Russian, Tatar, Belarusian, Ukrainian, and German cultures. Its museum corner presents the history, culture, and everyday life of the district’s German population. A museum collection in Borodulikha also includes a chest brought by Volga Germans during deportation in the late 19th or early 20th century. If you would like to visit these places, check visiting arrangements and event dates in advance.
The House of Friendship also took part in a Tatar cuisine competition. The ethnocultural association Laysan won first place with its dish. This offers a specific glimpse into the House’s cultural activities, but does not indicate that it regularly offers culinary events.
In Borodulikha’s central park stands a monument, erected in 1979, to local soldiers who fell in World War II. Their names are inscribed on granite slabs, and an eternal flame burns in front of the sculptural group. A monument erected in 1970 in Dmitrievka also commemorates the fallen: it includes a sculptural group, themed walls, the names of deceased villagers, and a depiction of the Order of the Patriotic War. In Zenkovka, a 1970 Victory monument features a concrete sculpture of a soldier and the inscription “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten.”
Archaeological traces in the landscape
New Shulba-9 is a settlement on dunes by the Shulbinka River and is attributed to the Bronze Age. Its eastern part has been damaged by bank collapses and washouts; no excavations have taken place there. Aul-2 is also classified as a Bronze Age settlement. It lies on sand dunes on the southern shore of an unnamed lake. No excavations have been carried out at this site either, and wind erosion has affected the cultural layer. These archaeological sites add a connection to earlier settlements and waterside landscapes to the cultural history of Borodulikha District.
