A marked circular trail, another hiking route and activities focused on nature and culture offer different ways to explore Mikhmanim. You can choose an independent hike or join a guided tour to discover viewpoints, topics related to Galilee and local medicinal plants. When planning, the trail type, route length and difficulty level are the main factors to help you compare the options.

Circular Trail and Route to ื ื—ืœ ื›ืžื•ืŸ

The ืฉื‘ื™ืœ ื™ื•ื ืชืŸ - ืกื•ื‘ื‘ ืžื›ืžื ื™ื circular trail goes around Mikhmanim and starts at the Khan. It is about 7 km long and moderately difficult. It is also marked in green and blue and is especially recommended for autumn, winter and spring. The circular trail is suitable for families and adults, but does not provide access to water. Keep this in mind when choosing your equipment. Check the trail markers and seasonal conditions on site.

The linear route to ื ื—ืœ ื›ืžื•ืŸ also starts at the Khan. It is about 3 km long, moderately difficult to challenging, and takes 3โ€“4 hours. Compared with the circular trail, it is shorter but rated as more challenging. This lets you weigh up a circular route versus a linear one, as well as two different difficulty levels. Trail conditions and access may change; check the current situation before setting out.

Ecological Garden, Guided Tour and Workshop

The ื“ืจืš ื”ืชื "ืš ืืœ ื”ื˜ื‘ืข ecological garden welcomes visitor and school groups to its grounds for experiences, guided tours and workshops. The ื™ื•ื ื‘ืžื›ืžื ื™ื tour visits viewpoints, explores topics related to Galilee and includes a visit to the reconstructed biblical village. It also includes an introduction to local medicinal plants and information about their uses. The tour brings together viewpoints, cultural topics and knowledge about plants. As the tour content may change, check the current offering in advance.

The ืžืชื ืช ื˜ื‘ืข workshop may also be offered. Participants can make items such as woven crafts, shepherd's flutes, lavender sachets, beeswax candles, scented oil or medallions. Confirm availability of the workshop with the operator. When comparing the activities, the main difference is whether you would prefer to hike, take a guided tour or make an item yourself.

Archaeological Sites in the Wider Destination of the Northern District

In the wider destination of the Northern District, Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo offer distinct archaeological experiences. Tel Hazor is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city associated with the Bible; visits focus on the upper city. Tel Hazor includes Solomonโ€™s Gate, dating to the 10th century BCE, a gate with six chambers and two towers. A Canaanite palace was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. The Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

The water system at Tel Hazor is another notable feature: its underground water-collection system preserves significant remains and represents sophisticated engineering adapted to the geography. Steps three meters wide are carved into the walls of a vertical shaft; the excavated shaft is 45 meters deep. Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 toward Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation before setting out.

Tel Megiddo is also part of the wider destination of the Northern District. This biblical tell preserves significant remains of a city associated with the Bible and is closely linked to events in the Bible. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional for the number of its temples, the continuity of its cult practices and its documented ritual activities. The orthogonal city plan from the Iron Age has few parallels in the Levant. Thus, alongside the guided tours and plant-related activities in Mikhmanim, the Northern District offers other distinct archaeological highlights.
