There are two ways to explore Keramim: a guided walking tour explains the kibbutz’s development, while a ride in a tractor-pulled wagon passes several stops. There are also horseback riding options and a drama and improvisation workshop. These offer different areas of focus: the history of the kibbutz, its different areas, horseback riding, and social issues.

Discover Keramim on foot and by wagon

The guided walking tour explains the transformation from a secular, communally organized Hashomer Hatzair kibbutz into a renewed, mixed and ecologically oriented kibbutz. If you are particularly interested in the history and changes of the place, this tour offers the right thematic focus.

The tractor-pulled wagon ride also goes through Keramim, but offers different impressions: it passes the dining hall, gardens, a viewpoint and recycling areas, as well as old and new kibbutz houses. The main difference between the experiences is their format and perspective: the guided tour explains the kibbutz’s development, while the wagon ride connects several named areas.

Horseback riding and a workshop

Perach riding stable in Keramim offers trail rides for groups, children and adults. A basic riding lesson is also available on site. For guided rides, the stable lists areas in the northern Negev, including Kramim Forest and Sansana Forest. The riding lesson at the stable and the guided rides are different offerings; check availability before your visit.

Bama LaKehila in Keramim offers a different thematic approach with a drama and improvisation workshop. Exercises and role-playing explore topics in Israeli society. While the kibbutz tour covers the development of the place, the workshop focuses on social issues explored through its activities.

Meitar Forest nearby

The northern entrance to Meitar Forest is on Route 60, about two kilometers north of the turnoff to Kibbutz Keramim. This approximate distance describes the forest entrance’s location relative to the turnoff, not the forest’s location within the kibbutz. Check the latest visitor information before setting out.

More topics in the broader Southern District destination

The broader Southern District destination has its own distinct points of interest, expanding the perspective beyond Keramim. Avdat National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site along the route of the ancient Incense Route in the Negev Highlands. Masada represents the history of the ancient Kingdom of Israel, its violent destruction, and the final resistance of Jewish patriots against the Roman army in 73 CE. Preserved remains there include the ruins of Herod’s palaces and Roman siege works, among the most complete of their kind in the Roman world.

Ein Gedi Nature Reserve offers a different kind of landscape: it includes Israel’s largest oasis, with springs, waterfalls, streams, ibex and rock hyraxes. A trail along the perennial Nahal Arugot leads to a hidden waterfall and pools in the upper reaches. Conditions on the trail may change after flooding; take this into account when planning.

At Makhtesh Ramon, the visitor center combines the life story of Israel’s first astronaut, Lieutenant Colonel Ilan Ramon, with an introduction to the world’s largest crater and its unique natural phenomena. Registering in advance through the visit coordination system secures a place for your chosen visit date. Check the latest requirements before planning your visit.
