Situs Jambansari in Ciamis combines an archaeological connection with several named facilities; Tirta Winaya is a family swimming pool with a historical context. In the wider Ciamis Regency, there are also archaeological sites, a traditional village, ceremonies and a museum that grew out of fossil discoveries. This distinction helps you decide what to focus on during your trip: Jambansari and Tirta Winaya represent specific places in Ciamis, while the other examples cover cultural themes across the wider regency.

Situs Jambansari and Tirta Winaya

According to the site caretaker, there are 13 statues at Situs Jambansari. The site also includes an open-air theater and a pavilion. A plaza houses a gallery for small and medium-sized enterprises. Thus, archaeological statues and other clearly named facilities are found side by side at the same location. Jambansari therefore offers more than a single archaeological point of interest: the open-air theater, pavilion and plaza with its gallery are also part of the description of the site.

Tirta Winaya is a legendary family swimming pool dating from the Dutch colonial era. It is located in Sindangrasa, Ciamis District, and is operated by the Ciamis Regency Administration. Its character therefore differs from that of Jambansari: here, the focus is on a swimming pool, its family-friendly character and its historical context, while Jambansari is known for its statues and the facilities belonging to the site. If you group Ciamis by theme, an archaeological site and a swimming pool with its own historical connection thus offer distinct points of interest.

Cultural Sites in Ciamis Regency

The Karangkamulyan archaeological site is located in Karangkamulyan Village, Cijeungjing District, Ciamis Regency. It is a remnant of the Galuh Kingdom era. Nine archaeological remains are listed at the site: Batu Pangcalikan, Panyabungan Hayam, Sanghyang Bedil, a symbol of worship, Cikahuripan, Panyandaan, Pamangkonan, the tomb of Adipati Panaekan, and a stone mound called Sri Begawat Pohaci. Comparing it with Jambansari is informative, provided the different counts are kept separate: Jambansari is said to have 13 statues, while nine remains are listed here.

Kampung Adat Kuta offers a different cultural focus. This traditional village is located in Karangpaningal Village, Tambaksari District, Ciamis Regency. The ancestral customs passed down through generations are preserved there; traditional ceremonies include Hajat Sasih and other rituals. The houses are built in the classic Sundanese architectural style. Numerous densely forested hills and diverse vegetation surround the village. In Kuta, the focus is therefore on customs, house architecture and the landscape around the settlement—a different approach from the named archaeological remains of Karangkamulyan.

Ceremonies and Fossil Discoveries

For these traditions, both place and time matter. Nyepuh is held by the residents of Ciomas Village every year shortly before Ramadan. The ceremony honors the ancestors who helped spread Islam in Ciomas. Ngikis Karangkamulyan took place on February 9, 2026, in the Bojong Galuh Karangkamulyan site area in Cijeungjing District. This religious and cultural tourism attraction is associated with Mapag Ramadan. A recurring annual tradition in Ciomas and a specifically dated event in Karangkamulyan thus represent different time frames.

The Tambaksari Site Museum is also part of Ciamis Regency’s cultural offerings. It grew out of fossil discoveries in the area; Tambaksari is a small village in the regency. In early 2001, the Ciamis Regency government initiated construction of the Gedung Penyelamatan Benda Cagar Budaya Tambaksari, also known as the Tambaksari Site Museum. Its purpose was to rescue and preserve fossil discoveries. The museum adds its own story to the statues and archaeological remains, one rooted in fossil discoveries in the area.
