Perbaungan can be explored through the history of the Sultanate of Serdang, historic buildings, and cultural performances in the surrounding community. Several dates provide context for these topics: from the start of construction to the relocation of the seat of government, as well as later descriptions of architecture and a palace replica. This brings political history, mosque architecture, and performance culture into view as distinct interests.

The History of Perbaungan and the Sultanate of Serdang

From 1889, the Istana Darul Arif, the Mesjid Raya Sulaimaniyah, and a business and market complex were built in Perbaungan. Later, the town became known as “Kota Simpang Tiga/Bandar Setia.” The palace, mosque, and business and market area point to the political, religious, and economic aspects of the town's history.

Under Sultan Sulaiman Syariful Alamsyah, the seat of government of the Sultanate of Serdang was moved to Perbaungan. The Istana Darul Arif was inaugurated in 1896 in Desa Kota Galuh Perbaungan as a sign of this change. The palace is therefore linked both to the buildings constructed from 1889 onward and to the political change of 1896.

The dates refer to different events: 1889 marks the start of construction of several buildings, while 1896 marks the palace's inauguration as a sign of the relocation of the seat of government. The town's history thus connects architectural development with a change in political administration.

Mosque Architecture Near Perbaungan

The Masjid Sulaimaniyah, located near Perbaungan, adds an architectural reference from the surrounding area to the town's history. It was permanently built in 1901. A 2022 report describes its style as predominantly Malay, its design as mostly yellow, and its roof as green. Style and color refer to different features: one describes the architectural tradition, while the others describe its colors.

The mosque has been renovated several times, particularly on the exterior, flooring, and roof. Its foundation and supporting columns retain their original architecture. An architectural account should therefore consider both the renovated parts and the preserved structure. The date 1901, the description from 2022, and the renovation history offer three different perspectives: its origins, appearance, and structural changes.

Palace Connections and Kuda Kepang Performances

A 2021 report mentions a replica of the Sultan of Serdang's palace in an area described as central to Perbaungan. It is a separate cultural reference alongside the historical information about the Istana Darul Arif: the replica refers to the Sultan of Serdang's palace, while the inauguration of the Istana Darul Arif is associated with the relocation of the seat of government.

Desa Melati II, Kecamatan Perbaungan, is home to several Kuda Kepang groups that take part in cultural performances. This gives performance culture a specific location within the surrounding community. It adds another cultural focus to the history of the buildings and palace.

When planning your trip, you can distinguish the points of interest by topic and location: the palace history and buildings dating from 1889 onward are associated with Perbaungan, Masjid Sulaimaniyah is near the town, and the Kuda Kepang groups are based in Desa Melati II. This helps place town history, mosque architecture, and performance culture in context as distinct aspects.
