A nighttime Dikili recitation is part of the Walima tradition in Desa Bongo: it begins after the communal Isya prayer and continues until morning. A traditional procession is also held there to celebrate the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, and visitors come to see it. Gorontalo reveals itself through cultural customs like these, as well as through historical sites, coasts and distinctive waters.

Walima and Places in Desa Bongo

Wisata religi Bubohu is located in Desa Bongo, in Kecamatan Batudaa Pantai, Kabupaten Gorontalo. Pantai Dulanga is one of three destinations in the same desa. From Masjid Walima Emas, you can see the beach of Desa Bongo and part of the city of Gorontalo. The Walima tradition thus connects with different perspectives on the places and their surroundings.

History by the Lake and on the Hills

On the shore of Danau Limboto, in Kabupaten Gorontalo, stands the Museum Pendaratan Pesawat Amphibi Bung Karno. Built in 1936, the museum preserves historical objects such as photographs, radios, books and agricultural equipment. A cool natural landscape surrounds it. If you are planning a visit, check the museum’s current operating status beforehand.

In the city of Gorontalo, Benteng Otanaha recalls the Portuguese colonial period. From the fort, you can enjoy views of Danau Limboto and the surrounding green hills. Landscape and history come together here, with the lake appearing as more than just a natural backdrop.

Pulau Saronde is also one of the province’s distinctive landscapes. This small island in Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara has soft white sand and clear seawater. Nature lovers can also visit Cagar Alam Panua, a nature reserve and habitat of the Maleo, Sulawesi’s emblematic bird.

Coast and Experiences on the Water

Pantai Indah Bumbulan in Kelurahan Libuo, Kecamatan Paguat, is used for surfing and traditional boats. There are also cottages in the area around the tourist facility. Tanjung Bajo is also in Kecamatan Paguat and is suitable for diving and fishing. Local access conditions may change; check them before your visit.

The waters at Botubarani lie within the Teluk Gorontalo marine protected area and are known as one of Indonesia’s whale shark aggregation sites. Visitors take a boat about 50 meters offshore to interact with the plankton-eating whale sharks. Follow the rules so that interactions with people do not affect the animals’ natural habitat.

Taman Laut Olele is noted for its diverse coral reefs and the rare Salvador-Dali sponge. Its calm waves and suitability for family outings are also mentioned as features. Sea conditions change seasonally; take this into account when planning.

Getting There and Gorontalo Cuisine

Jalaludin Airport is the main airport serving the city of Gorontalo; it is about 20 minutes from the city center. Check current flight and transfer options before your trip.

Rumah Makan O'Hara serves Gorontalo seafood and specialties such as tuna satay, sour fish soup, grilled Balarica fish, papaya flowers, and Goroho bananas with Sagela sambal. If you plan to eat there, check the current opening status and food availability beforehand.
