In Pati Regency, cultural sites meet mangroves, waterfalls and mountain landscapes. The options range from Batik Bakaran and pilgrimage sites to paths through mangroves and waterside viewpoints. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether culture, nature or a mix of both should be the focus.
Culture, Batik and Pilgrimage Sites
Batik Bakaran is a batik craft tradition from Pati Regency that is still practiced today. One center of this tradition is in Bakaran Village, Juwana District. Its history dates back to around the 14th century. Its specific connection to the area and long craft tradition make batik a distinctive cultural feature of the region.
The Meron tradition is also closely tied to a specific place and date: it takes place every year on the 13th day of the month of Rabiul Awal in Sukolilo Village, Sukolilo District, Pati Regency. Those interested in religious and cultural traditions will also find important pilgrimage sites and religious attractions in Pati.
The Panti Pangrekso Kagungan Dalem Syeh Djangkung Panembahan Landoh specialty museum has spiritual, historical and cultural significance. It is located behind the grave complex of Syeh Djangkung and complements the pilgrimage area there. The museum and grave are thus directly connected to the community’s pilgrimage and spiritual activities.
Other religious sites offer different points of interest: Hok Tik Bio Temple is about 500 meters, or a six-minute walk, from Pati town square. Vihara Sadagiri is a Buddhist place of worship and a landmark of religious tourism in Pati Regency; from there, visitors can see the slopes of Mount Muria. The grave of Nyai Ageng Ngerang in Tambakromo Village, Tambakromo District, is visited by pilgrims from various regions.
Mangroves, Plantations and Waterside Landscapes
Agrowisata Jollong is on the slope of Mount Muria, 700 meters above sea level. The site is located on a coffee plantation owned by PT Perkebunan Nusantara IX, which has been in operation since the Dutch colonial era. Jollong also has several photo spots with mountain panoramas.
On the coast, a wooden boardwalk at Mina Mangrove Tunggulsari winds through dense mangroves to Mina Beach. The landscape also includes fishponds, above which birds fly. Kertomulyo Beach has a 100-meter-long mangrove boardwalk, as well as an observation tower and an unusually shaped pavilion for relaxing. Both sites pair mangrove scenery with waterside paths, but the visitor experiences described at each have different focal points.
Another natural highlight is Grinjingan Sewu Waterfall: the 25-meter-high waterfall is in Jrahi Village, Gunung Wungkal District, and is surrounded by lush greenery. At Gunung Rowo Reservoir, visitors can relax under shady trees and take in the reservoir panorama from an elevated position.
