Alsópáhok brings together a range of travel interests: baroque architecture, a nature-rich area within the settlement and leisure activities at Bobo Fun Park.

Baroque Church and Nature-Rich Area

The Baroque Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Szent Kereszt felmagasztalása) is in Alsópáhok. Construction began in 1770 under Ignác Koller, Bishop of Veszprém. Its dedication to the Exaltation of the Cross and its classification as a Baroque church make it a clear cultural landmark in the town’s history.

Another side of the town is revealed by the Gyümölcsöző Model Garden. It is home to old regional fruit tree varieties and other tree species, as well as a diverse shrub and herb layer. The garden forms a nature-rich, species-diverse area within the settlement. If you are interested in plant diversity, it is worth looking beyond the fruit trees: the lower vegetation layers are also part of the garden’s character.

Leisure Activities and Program Dates

At Bobo Fun Park, visitors aged six and over can try the Ropes Course, Fun Walls, Skyscraper Walk, Jump in the Air, Geometrix, Cave and Dream Walls with an Adrenalin+ ticket. The Dream Walls are outdoor climbing walls. Some attractions have additional age, weight or height requirements, so check which conditions apply to each one when choosing.

The Alsópáhoki Alkotóház is associated with craft workshops, creative weeks, community events and experiential learning for participants from the region. This is a different focus from a visit centered on architectural history or natural areas. If you would like to include the Alkotóház in your plans, check the current program and dates before your visit.

Zala as a Wider Regional Context

Within the broader destination of Zala, the Zalai Wine Region offers a regional perspective on wine and landscape. It extends across the slopes and uplands of the Zalai-dombság and the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység. The wine region comprises two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements—a context that extends well beyond a single topic or place.

Kis-Balaton is also a distinct natural area in Zala: it is the county’s largest body of water, is strictly protected and covers 14,745 hectares. At the same time, it is the setting for István Fekete’s classic novels Tüskevár and Téli berek. Its protected status, size and literary connections offer different ways of experiencing the same landscape.

The Kápolnapuszta Buffalo Reserve offers another connection with nature and wildlife experiences. A 1.5-kilometer walking trail with rest areas and viewpoints leads through the reserve. During opening hours, guests may pet the tame animals every day. The Buffalo Festival is also held there every year in May or June; the exact dates may vary from year to year. If you would like to attend the festival, check the dates for your year of travel and plan any visit involving contact with the animals around the opening hours.
