Tés combines windmills and a blacksmithing tradition with hiking trails that pass through the village. Visitors planning a stay can choose between traditional crafts, hiking routes and views. The wooden lookout tower on the National Blue Trail and Lácz are two viewpoints in different locations.

Windmills and a blacksmithing tradition

The Helt Mill in Tés is currently operational. If this status is important for your visit, check the current situation in advance. In addition to the windmills, there is a blacksmith workshop open to visitors and its yard. They recall local craftspeople, wheelwrights, blacksmiths and farriers. Interested visitors can learn about a blacksmith’s work in the workshop. Master blacksmith Cseszneki Ferenc gives a demonstration by prior arrangement. If you would like to include this in your plans, book in advance and check whether it is available on your preferred date.

Hiking trails and viewpoints

The National Blue Trail and the Red Trail pass through Tés. Check current route information before setting out. The wooden lookout tower stands north of the built-up area, along the National Blue Trail. Lácz (Láczi-dűlő) is at the end of Hunyadi János Street and offers a panorama across wooded, hilly and sloping terrain. Their locations distinguish the two viewpoints: the tower stands on the Blue Trail, while Lácz lies at the end of the street, overlooking the landscape.

Accommodation in Tés

The Tési Evangelical Guesthouse welcomes guests year-round. Check current availability directly before booking. If the blacksmith demonstration is central to your stay, arrange a time in advance and check that it aligns with your preferred accommodation dates. This way, you can check the availability of both separately for your plans, rather than assuming that either one is guaranteed.

Balaton North as a broader setting

The broader destination of Balaton North offers other topics for more wide-ranging travel plans. In Tapolca, the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang offers boat rides and the guided Csodálatos karszt (Wonderful Karst) exhibition. The cave is part of a cave system beneath the town that has been explored to a length of 14.6 kilometers to date. Visitors can therefore experience both a boat ride and an exhibition, alongside the geological scale of the cave system.

Hegyestű is another landscape highlight in the broader destination of Balaton North. The 337-meter-high mountain lies between Zánka and Monoszló; its inner face reveals a basalt volcano that was active about eight million years ago. At the viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry, visitors can identify the surrounding hills with the help of a panoramic information board. Hegyestű also features a rock garden of characteristic rock types from Transdanubia, the western half of Hungary. Its elevation, location and geology offer several ways to explore the site: landscape orientation, volcanism and rock types.

For a cultural highlight, Herend is another option in the broader destination of Balaton North. The Herend Porcelain Museum presents a permanent exhibition and rotating exhibitions on the history of the manufactory. The visitor center introduces porcelain production, the techniques involved and the traditions of applied arts. In the Minimanufaktúra workshops, visitors can handle porcelain paste and a brush for painting. Herend’s themes therefore differ from the viewpoints and geology at Hegyestű: here, the focus is on materials, techniques and hands-on craftsmanship.
