Thermal baths, forests and lakes, cycling and walking routes, and local culture give Tamási many different facets. You can focus on bathing, enjoy the outdoors or explore the town’s history. Events are also part of the picture: when planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between attractions described as permanent and activities with set dates or special visiting conditions.

Thermal Baths and Routes for Active Days

The Tamási Thermal Bath is open year-round. Facilities include a sauna area, leisure pools and medicinal water; the bathhouse also has a slide park and wellness services. As facility details may change, check them again before your visit. This lets you plan the bath as a focus in its own right without losing sight of the town’s other options.

A 6 km cycle path connects Tamási with Pári. Check the route’s condition before setting off. Another option is the Tamási Velodrome: its banked circuit can be used by prior arrangement. The velodrome is considered the only currently operating track of its kind in Hungary. If you prefer to get around on foot, the Miklósvári Park Forest has hiking and walking trails.

A hiking trail on Várhegy is designed for children and adults, and for both pedestrians and cyclists. Information boards and family-friendly rest areas are located along the route. From the Várhegy lookout, views extend across the surrounding area to the vineyards of the Tolna wine region. A walk around Miklósvár Lake is another well-defined option: the route is about 1 km long and flat.

Pacsmag Lakes and the Gyulaj Forests

The Pacsmag Lakes nature reserve lies on the outskirts of Tamási, in the valley of the Koppány River. Wetlands define the area, with smaller patches of woodland and grassland. Bird enthusiasts can combine a birdwatching program with a guided tour: it follows an 8 km route around the lakes and lasts four hours. From the observation towers, visitors can spot, among other species, ferruginous ducks, red-crested pochards, herons and great egrets. The program is seasonal; check when the tour runs before you travel.

The 20-hectare Vadaspark showcases the flora and fauna of the Gyulaj forests. According to the information boards, large wild animals native to Hungarian forests can be seen along a green-marked trail, including fallow deer, red deer, roe deer, mouflon and wild boar. Pacsmag and Vadaspark offer different experiences: the former focuses on wetlands and birdwatching, while the latter highlights woodland nature and its wildlife.

Local History, Exhibitions and Events

The Rozália Chapel stands on Kálvária Hill and dates back to the 16th century. Another religious landmark is a Baroque Roman Catholic church built between 1735 and 1745. The Local History Collection offers a dedicated way to explore the town’s past.

At the Tamási Gallery in the House of Culture, you can see permanent and temporary exhibitions. The House of Culture was created by converting a former prison; the exhibition program may change. Those interested in the town’s cultural history can treat the gallery and the Local History Collection as distinct places to visit, rather than assuming they cover the same ground.

The Trófea Vadgasztronómia Festival takes place in Tamási every year. It is a nationwide cooking competition for game dishes. The Tamási Lovasnapok are held in connection with the August 20 celebrations. As event dates and programs are important for planning, check the relevant dates before you travel.

Dám Pont in Miklósvár

The Dám Pont Ecotourism Visitor Center is located in the Miklósvár district, in the park forest, and has an interactive exhibition and activity area. The center also offers programs and organized guided tours. On days when the visitor center is closed, it welcomes groups by prior arrangement. If a group visit is an option for you, arrange it in advance.

Tamási offers a range of possible focuses: bathing, walking and cycling routes, nature observation, local history or an event. Which of these go together depends on what you want to focus your trip on.
