Felsonyék brings together nature conservation, wine growing and cultural-historical themes. Kollárti Meadow covers 31 hectares; Várhegy is home to a castle complex and a fortification divided into four parts. Churches, a rectory and vineyard slopes complete the picture. Landscape and history thus stand alongside one another as distinct points of interest.

Nature, Birds and Vineyard Slopes

Kollárti Meadow is a nature reserve of local significance in the administrative area of Felsonyék, beside the Sió Canal. Common redshanks and snipes occur there in spring. This seasonal feature also gives the area ornithological significance.

Vineyards cover nearly 180 hectares on the slopes of Fölhegy, Középhegy and Alhegy. Together with Kollárti Meadow, they form a distinctive landscape and wine-growing feature. If you take nature into account when choosing a holiday apartment, you can include these points of interest in your plans for your stay.

Between Magyarkeszi and Felsonyék lies Tükrösi Lake, a one-hectare lake surrounded by woodland. It is considered the smallest fishing lake in the county and preserves memories of the Hungarian Conquest period. The lake is therefore a point of interest in the surrounding area, not part of Kollárti Meadow.

Churches, the Castle Complex and Historic Buildings

The Roman Catholic church stands in the town centre beside the cemetery and preserves Gothic wall remains dating from the 15th century. It was renovated in 1836 with the support of Prince Fülöp Batthyány. The church thus brings together medieval building fabric and a later renovation history.

A 13th-century castle complex stands on Felsonyék’s Várhegy and was first mentioned in 1315. The fortification consists of four parts; the first and middle parts were already in use in the Bronze Age. Bronze Age use and the medieval castle complex thus mark different periods in the history of Várhegy.

The Reformed church also has a distinctive architectural feature: its tower is 33 metres high and houses two bells cast by Szlezák László. They weigh 420 and 100 kilograms respectively. The Roman Catholic rectory at 38 Kossuth Street is a listed historic building. The late Baroque building was previously an 18th-century manor house, adding its own building history to the themes of churches and the castle.
