Mőcsény can be explored through the cultural history of the village and the district of Zsibrik, as well as activities in the surrounding area. When planning your stay, you can easily distinguish between these focuses: history and architectural heritage in the village, and trails and leisure activities at the Szálka Reservoir.

Zsibrik and Cultural History

The former settlement of Zsibrik is now part of Mőcsény. In the district of Mőcsény-Zsibrik, at Petőfi Sándor utca 28, stands a listed half-timbered house built by German settlers. Its protected status helps preserve an example of 18th-century construction techniques. The house thus points to a specific building method and to the history of German settlers in the area.

The Szent-Anna Chapel, also known as the Palatinca Chapel, is also part of the village’s history. It was built in 1814. Another historical artefact is the organ from the former Evangelical Lutheran church in Zsibrik: it dates from the 18th century and is of exceptional artistic value. The organ was later restored elsewhere.

The Néprajzi Gyűjtemény in Mőcsény is a museum. Its collection includes textiles, clothing and furniture, as well as objects from kitchens and pantries. It relates to the local Catholic Germans, the Bukovina and Transylvanian Székelys, and the Hungarians from Upper Hungary. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening hours in advance.

Nature and Activities in the Surrounding Area

The Juhhodály-völgy geological outcrop near Mőcsény is designated a natural monument and listed under the name Pz-03. It adds a geological point of interest to the cultural attractions.

In the vicinity of Mőcsény, you can walk around the Szálka Reservoir on marked hiking trails. Part of the southern area is suitable for cycling. The trails offer different ways to explore the surroundings. As trail conditions and access may change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Swimming is permitted at a designated spot at the reservoir. Conditions and designated areas may vary seasonally or due to local changes. Pedal boats and SUP boards can be rented at the beach; the service is seasonal, so check availability before your trip. The old railway embankment in the reservoir area is used for a different purpose: mainly by anglers and picnickers, though this use may change.

A documented hiking route also runs along the ridge between Szálka and Mőcsény to Mőcsény railway station. The route was described on March 7, 2020. Check current trail conditions and markings separately before planning this route. This allows you to distinguish the documented ridge route from the marked trails around the reservoir, rather than treating them as the same route.
