Balatonkeresztúr combines a protected Baroque guesthouse, a row of cellars showcasing folk architecture and views of Lake Balaton with a Buddhist centre, a wine route and a free beach. This lets you make culture, scenery and time for swimming different priorities during your stay.

A guesthouse with Baroque character

The protected Baroque guesthouse of the Bél-Mátyás Visitor Centre is in the central area of Balatonkeresztúr, in a quiet holiday district and surrounded by a large, well-kept park. It is a specifically named guesthouse; its protected Baroque style makes it a distinctive local landmark. When choosing where to stay, you can consider not only the location but also the character of the building.

The Bél-Mátyás Visitor Centre offers programmes lasting half a day or a full day. This gives you a choice of a shorter or longer time frame for this activity. Check in advance which programmes are available on your preferred date. The cultural activities vary in duration: the visitor centre offers half-day or full-day programmes, while teachings at the Buddhist centre take place twice a year.

Culture and suitable time slots

At the Rabten Tashi Ling Magyar Tibeti Központ, visitors can attend teachings by high-ranking masters in person twice a year and gain insights into Buddhist wisdom. The seasonal visiting period is listed as 15 March to 15 October; check the applicable visiting dates before travelling. If you are coming specifically for the teachings, take the exact date into account as well.

Cellar architecture, wine route and views

The Műemlék Pincesor comprises 22 old, locally protected cellars, regarded as preserved examples of folk architecture. Alongside the protected Baroque guesthouse, it offers a different architectural feature: a row of cellars that exemplifies folk building traditions. The Műemlék Pincesor on Bokrosi-hegy also offers sweeping views of Lake Balaton.

The Hamvas-Béla wine route adds a named route to the area’s history. It was established in 2017 on the joint initiative of the Facsiga estate and the Rubin winery, and runs between Balatonkeresztúr and Balatonberény. For travellers interested in wine routes, its origins offer an additional cultural connection.

Getting around and time by the water

In Balatonkeresztúr, Route 7, which runs along Lake Balaton, turns south towards Nagykanizsa. If you are planning to continue south, you can use this junction as a local point of reference.

The free Vitorlás utcai beach is a natural bathing area with gently deepening water and a well-kept lawn for visitors. It offers a different focus from the cultural activities: here, the emphasis is on time by the water. Seasonal services may vary, so check the details for your preferred period before visiting.
