Paradohuta combines a specific local history with Csevice springs and several hiking connections. At its heart is the glassworks founded by Ferenc II Rákóczi; there is also spring water with distinctive characteristics and trails with different points of reference. You can tailor your stay to cultural history, springs or hiking. Details such as a spring’s location at the edge of the forest and a trail beginning at the bell tower provide practical points of reference for planning.

Glassmaking history and origins

The glassworks founded by Ferenc II Rákóczi in Paradohuta was later moved to Parádsasvár. Rákóczi founded the glass workshop in Parádóhuta in 1708 near the Klarissza Spring. These details mark two stages: Paradohuta was the founding location, and Parádsasvár was the later site. The year 1708 dates the founding and places the workshop’s history in context.

Csevice springs and water

The Clarissa Spring lies on the southeastern edge of Paradohuta, at the edge of the forest. Its carbonated water contains iron and lithium and is used as a drinking cure. The Klarissza Spring is a Csevice spring with water containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. The drinking cure describes how the water is used; it is not an individual medical recommendation. Paradohuta’s distinctive features include two named Csevice springs: Klarissza-csevice, with a covered well and a drinking pavilion, and Tót-berki-csevice. Visitors can taste carbonated, slightly sulfurous mineral water from a covered well pipe at a Csevice spring. Check current access conditions before visiting.

Hiking and navigation

Two named hiking trails offer different points of reference for planning. “Csevicék nyomában a Mátra északkeleti lábánál” begins in the center of Paradohuta, at the bell tower. Route details for this trail may change; check them before setting out. “A kis Rákóczi turistaút a Mátrában” is a shortened section of the Rákóczi Tourist Trail and can be hiked in one day. While the starting point of the first trail is specifically identified in the village, the second description classifies the section by the time needed to hike it. Paradohuta is also considered a good endpoint for hikes heading north from Kékes.

Getting there

The Clarissa Spring is easy to reach by car. As of 2025, Parádóhuta-Harangláb on Széchenyi út is the nearest documented VOLÁN bus stop. Check the current timetable before travelling.

In the wider destination of Heves, in the southern part of Heves County, lies the 16,114-hectare Hevesi Füves Puszták Landscape Protection Area. It was designated in 1993 and reached its present extent following expansions in 2005 and 2008. In the wider destination of Heves, the 6.5 km Ilona Valley Nature Trail follows the Ilona Stream past the geological features of the Eastern Mátra Mountains and traces of former ore mining. The Pély-Ludas Nature Trail in the wider destination of Heves provides information about the grassland habitats of the Hevesi Plain, including salt meadows, marshes, water bodies, scrub, semi-natural woody vegetation, forests, wildlife and the European roller population.
