Hernádkércs in northern Hungary has two distinct churches and lies on a documented canoe route on the Hernád. For a short stay, it is worth planning the cultural visit and river trip separately: the existence of the route does not mean that a bookable service is available every day.

Churches in the village

The Reformed church is a listed monument. The Baroque Roman Catholic church was built between 1740 and 1745 and rebuilt and enlarged in 1818 by its patron, Ágoston Fáy. Its later tower above the main façade has three gables, with empty statue niches beneath them. These details help distinguish the Catholic church from the Reformed church. Current visiting hours and religious use have not been verified and should be checked before visiting the interior.

The Hernád as a possible route

A documented multi-day canoe trip runs from Vizsoly via Gibárt and Hernádkércs to Ócsanálos. The second day, from Gibárt to Hernádkércs, is described as covering about 15 river kilometres. Plan such a trip only with a confirmed operator, water level, equipment, put-in and take-out points, and appropriate skill. The route description does not provide current authorization or a schedule. No canoe trip is necessary for anyone who only wants to visit the churches.

Accommodation according to the type of visit

Compare actual rooms or holiday apartments by their proximity to the village centre or the agreed river access point. Price, availability, and transport depend on the specific offer. The old page promised inexpensive holiday homes without substantiating such an offer.

District: Szikszó District.
