Alsótelekes offers two distinct perspectives on the village and its surroundings for planning a trip. Nearby, the Telekes Valley presents a striking landscape. This lets you distinguish between cultural points of interest in the village and a natural area with a stream and cave.

Sights in the village

The World War II memorial may be among the sights in Alsótelekes.

Telekes Valley and Ördög-gát-lyuk

The Telekes Valley is a little-known, impressive gorge in the Rudabánya Hills. It cuts through the mountains between Alsótelekes and the Bódva Valley and is part of Aggtelek National Park. The Telekes Stream passes by Alsótelekes and then flows northeast through the valley. The stream and the valley have different geographical connections: the stream passes by the village, while the valley cuts through the mountains between Alsótelekes and the Bódva Valley.

The entrance to Ördög-gát-lyuk Cave lies in the valley of the Telekes Stream, about 500 meters northwest of Ördög-gát and 10 meters above the valley floor on the right-hand valley slope, looking against the direction of flow. The cave is in a wooded area on the slope of the Telekes Valley, a few meters above the stream’s current level, and has three natural entrances. These details locate the cave entrance within the valley and describe its position on the slope more precisely. The elevation figures refer to different points of reference: the valley floor and the stream’s current level.

A dated tour announcement

A single tour in the Telekes Valley was announced for February 2026. The planned destinations were Ördög-gát and Ördög-gát-lyuk Cave, known for its Bronze Age finds. The tour was scheduled to cover 7 kilometers and last three hours; the stated starting point was the parking lot in front of the Éger Valley Youth Camp. Participation required advance registration by February 27 at the latest and a minimum of five full-price tickets. The group was limited to a maximum of 30 participants. This one-time event has passed and is not an ongoing offering. If you are looking for a guided tour today, check current dates separately.
