Nisaki is a quiet coastal village on the northeast side of Corfu. Its harbour, rocky shoreline and trails offer different ways to spend your time: boat trips, snorkelling and hikes can each be considered as ideas for a day out. If you are looking for a holiday rental, first decide whether the water, a hiking destination or a cultural event should determine your choice of location.
Harbour and boat trip
At the harbour in Nisaki, Nissaki Boat Rental says it has been hiring out boats from the same location for 30 years. After an introductory briefing, the boats are considered suitable for complete beginners. One suggested boat trip starts at the harbour, follows the coast north to Kassiopi and returns with stops at small beaches. The route therefore combines a journey towards Kassiopi with a return along the coast; the stops are part of the proposed tour. This makes it a clear water-focused option for the day, while nearby hikes, with their own starting points and trail types, offer alternatives.
Hiking in the area
On the upper side of Nisaki, hiking trails lead to the ruins of ΠαλιÎĎ‚ ΣινιÎĎ‚ (Old Sinies). The ruins give the trails a specific destination and a historical connection. A circular hiking trail nearby starts and ends in Kalami and leads through the northeast of the island.
A section of the Corfu Trail follows a different route: after a largely level stretch with views, it descends towards Katavolos and down to the sea at Kaminaki. So when choosing, the character of the trail is decisive: the circular route starts and ends in Kalami; on the Corfu Trail section, the transition from level ground to a descent defines the route.
Rocky coastline and village life
At Nisaki beach, the rocky shoreline on the left is suitable for snorkelling. This offers a coastal activity at the beach alongside the boat trip. The stone chapel of Saint Arsenios nearby can be reached from the rocks.
The traditional Panigýri in Nisaki combines 14 June with food and Corfiot music. If you would like to make the event a reason for your trip, check the arrangements for the relevant year.
Corfu as a broader travel destination
Corfu offers a distinct cultural focus. Corfu’s Old Town has preserved almost all of its historic urban fabric; its buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Museum of Asian Art in the Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia.
The Archaeological Museum of Corfu offers a different view of the collections: it displays the Gorgoneion Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. The pediment dates from 585 BC; it was excavated in 1911 near the Aghioi Theodoroi Monastery. Corfu therefore offers a range of cultural themes, from the history of the Old Town to archaeological objects.
