The Corfu Trail passes through Liapades, and Stage 7 begins in the village. This connection makes the hiking trail a concrete point of reference when considering Liapades as a possible place to stay overnight.

Liapades as a stage town on the Corfu Trail

The Corfu Trail is 180 km long, and Liapades is one of the 13 named stage towns. In addition, Stage 7 begins in Liapades. This offers two ways to put the village in context: as one of the stage towns along the entire trail and as the starting point of a specific section. This helps you weigh the route connection against your other travel interests.

Another excursion option is in the destination’s surrounding area: boats are available for hire for trips to the bays of Rovinia and Chomi. This offers a different focus from the Corfu Trail and may also play a role in choosing where to stay. Check the current availability of boat rentals in advance before making firm plans for such an excursion. This allows you to include hiking and a boat trip as different interests in your travel plans, without combining them into a single route.

Corfu: culture and landscape in the wider travel itinerary

On Corfu, the Old Town offers its own historical focus. Its urban fabric has been almost entirely preserved; the buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town of Corfu and its two fortresses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s culture is therefore framed by a clear historical span of several centuries.

The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu’s Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. The collection offers a cultural perspective different from the history of the city and its fortresses. From Corfu Port, you can reach the museum on bus line 2 on the Mantouki–Kanoni route. Check the timetables before travelling so you can include this connection in your plans.

The Archaeological Museum of Corfu also offers a distinct historical focus. It was built primarily to display the Gorgoneion Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. The pediment was created in 585 BC and excavated near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi in 1911. The two dates mark different stages: the creation of the object and its later excavation. This connects a specific work of art with its long history.

For hiking, Corfu offers other landscape experiences: in the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. In Gastouri, the Achilleion Summer Palace was built in 1892 in the Pompeian style. These historical and landscape highlights add to the picture of Corfu, while Liapades is presented here in relation to the Corfu Trail and boat rentals in the surrounding area.
