Anapaftiria is a small mountain settlement at an elevation of 310 metres near the village of Loutses on Mount Pantokratoras. From here, the views extend to the rocky shores of Kassiopi and to Albania’s nearest coastlines and mountains.

Mountain Setting, Views and Hiking

Its elevation of 310 metres and its connection to Loutses and Mount Pantokratoras place Anapaftiria in the mountain region. The views also extend beyond the immediate surroundings: Albania’s nearest coastlines and mountains appear alongside the rocky shores of Kassiopi. Both the mountain setting and the views of coasts and mountains therefore shape the character of Anapaftiria.

The Cyclorama hike is located near the destination. This circular route passes through the eastern highlands of the Pantokrator massif and offers views across much of the island. Unlike the view from the settlement, it is a route through the highlands; the two nature themes can therefore be distinguished when planning your stay. Conditions on the trail may vary. Check them before setting out on the hike.

Corfu as a Broader Destination

Corfu complements Anapaftiria’s local character with other cultural and nature-related themes. Corfu Old Town has preserved almost all of its historic urban fabric; its buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic urban centre stands alongside Anapaftiria’s mountainous character.

For exploring the Old Town, a digital guide provides information about more than 80 sights, complemented by high-quality audiovisual material. It is intended for residents and visitors; check its availability before your trip. The Museum of Asian Art is also located in the Old Town. Its collection comprises more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia.

The Museum of Asian Art can be reached from Corfu port on bus line 2, which runs along the Mantouki–Kanoni route. If you plan to visit, check the timetable before travelling. This makes a visit to the museum a distinct part of a trip to Corfu, separate from the landscapes around Anapaftiria.

More Nature and Culture on Corfu

In the municipal unit of Achilleion, old paths run through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail covers a different scale: it passes through several settlements, with Benitses among its 13 overnight stages. The trail and the Cyclorama hike therefore offer different hiking experiences—a route through several settlements compared with a circular route in the eastern highlands of the Pantokrator massif.

Festivals and folk festivals, as well as cultural events, are also part of what the villages in the municipal unit of Achilleion offer. Specific programmes vary, so you can check individual event dates before your trip. When choosing accommodation, you could first decide on your preferred focus: Anapaftiria’s mountain setting and views, or other hiking and cultural experiences specifically associated with Corfu.
