Keramotí Beach is right in front of the village, and a 6 km mountain hiking trail runs through Keramotí from Amygdalokefáli to Kámbos. This gives you two distinct priorities to consider when planning your trip: the stretch of coast right by the village and a hiking route that passes through Keramotí. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Keramotí, you can first weigh up whether the beach or a hiking stage will be more central to your plans.

Distances and access

Keramotí Beach is 75 km southwest of Chaniá and 36 km south of Kissamos. These distances help put its location into perspective; access to the beach is a separate point to consider when planning. A bumpy gravel road connects the settlement of Keramotí with Keramotí Beach, and a suitable vehicle is recommended for the drive. As the road surface and its suitability may change, check conditions locally before setting off.

The beach and coastal setting

Keramotí Beach is relatively large, with pebbles and rocks in places. If you take the beach surface into account when choosing where to swim, bear in mind that it is not uniform throughout. The beach lies between Cape Koutoulos and the tiny island of Diapori; this coastal setting adds to its direct connection with the village. There are no tourist facilities at the beach itself. If you expect facilities right by the water, factor this into your choice of destination. The beach’s proximity to the village and the lack of facilities at the beach are two separate considerations.

The mountain hiking trail through Keramotí

The 6 km mountain hiking trail runs from Amygdalokefáli through Keramotí to Kámbos. The order matters when planning your route: Amygdalokefáli and Kámbos are the endpoints, with Keramotí in between. The stated distance refers to the entire route, not to a section that starts or ends in Keramotí. The 6 km figure indicates the route length, not the walking time, so plan for the actual duration separately. Also check the current condition of the trail before setting out.

Churches and remembrance

The Church of Saint John the Hermit stands in a gorge within the settlement of Keramotí. Christ the Savior is at a different location: the church stands a few metres above the middle of Keramotí Beach. The two churches can therefore be distinguished by their locations—one within the settlement, the other above the coast. The small Xotikospílio chapel is also nearby. It was built in memory of women and children who, according to tradition, were killed by the Ottomans on Good Friday in 1824 after seeking refuge there.

When weighing up the beach and the hike, different factors matter: for the beach, the gravel road and lack of tourist facilities; for the trail, its length, endpoints and current condition.
