A rooftop tour at Truro Cathedral may include a climb to Victoria Tower, with views across Truro. At Daubuz Moor, walking trails pass through woodland, wildflower meadows and wetlands. These different highlights make the city appealing to travellers who want to include both culture and time outdoors in their plans.

Cathedral, museum and performing arts

At Truro Cathedral, volunteer guides lead tours exploring the building’s history and architecture. Dates may change. Special tours of the roof areas are scheduled separately; these may also include a climb to Victoria Tower, with views across the city. If you are particularly interested in architecture, you can take this option into account when planning your visit.

Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery is in the centre of Truro and houses more than one million objects. Its permanent exhibitions include the Heart of Cornwall Gallery, the Mineral Gallery, the Nature Gallery, the Art Gallery and the Ancient Civilisations Gallery. The names reflect the range of themes covered by the collections, from local heritage and minerals to nature, art and ancient civilisations.

At Hall for Cornwall, the Cornwall Playhouse is a three-level auditorium for the main performance programme and entertainment offering. You can walk through the building between Boscawen Street and Lemon Quay. It combines a practical landmark in the city with a destination in its own right for culture enthusiasts; check current performances and tour options when planning your dates.

Walks and green spaces

Truro’s green spaces offer different experiences. At Boscawen Park, walking trails run along the banks of the River Truro. The park also has a children’s playground and a duck pond, as well as tennis courts, an outdoor gym, table tennis and a pétanque court. If you are planning time outdoors, you will find both riverside paths and a range of recreational activities in one named location.

Daubuz Moor is a six-hectare nature reserve featuring woodland, wildflower meadows, wetlands and the River Allen. Walking trails and opportunities to observe wildlife give the area a different character from Boscawen Park. At the southern end, visitors can see the remains of Moresk Mill. Coosebean Woodland adds another option, with walking trails and boardwalks along the River Kenwyn. When planning, you can choose whether to focus on riverside paths, wildlife watching, woodland or a visible historic remnant.

Victoria Gardens is a public garden, just a short walk from the city centre. It was created to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. During the summer months, it hosts the Summer Bandstand Concert Series, with free live music. As the programme is seasonal and may change, check the dates in advance if a concert is important to your travel plans.

Market and getting there

Truro Farmers Market is held every Wednesday and Saturday at Lemon Quay. Times may change, so check the latest schedule before your visit. The market adds a regular weekly event to the city’s cultural and natural attractions, which you can take into account when choosing your visit dates.

Truro is on the main line; a branch line from here runs to Falmouth. Another way to find your bearings is the Falmouth–Trelissick–Tolverne–Malpas/Truro service operated by Enterprise Boats. Check sailing times and operating days separately. The Port of Truro has four free-standing visitor pontoons for vessels up to 18 metres long. Availability and mooring conditions may change; check these before you arrive.
