Golden sand and a distinctive seaside resort atmosphere define Skegness; its attractions also range from marine life to Victorian history. When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: the beach and traditional attractions, wildlife, culture or a longer stretch along the coast. This lets you discover the town from different perspectives without cramming everything into a fixed daily schedule.

Beach and classic seaside resort

Skegness Beach offers golden sand as well as traditional attractions and activities by the sea. Traditional food options include fish and chip shops, candy floss, ice cream and doughnut stands. If you’re looking for a familiar coastal feel, the beach and classic seaside resort offerings come together here. The specific selection of shops and activities may change.

History in the townscape

The railway reached Skegness in 1873 and was directly responsible for the town’s later success as a seaside resort. The railway connection is therefore an important part of the town’s development: it marks the beginning of the link between Skegness and its later identity as a seaside resort.

In the historic centre, much of the 19th-century architecture remains above the shopfronts on High Street and Lumley Road, modernised in the 20th century. Older parts of buildings and altered shopfronts tell the story of different building phases. The Skegness and District Heritage Centre adds to this picture of the town’s history: it is housed in the former police station, former courthouse and former cells of Skegness. The permanent exhibition “Law and Order - Crime and Punishment” features original Victorian cells and focuses on law and the penal system.

Seals and marine life

Skegness Natureland rescues and rehabilitates orphaned and injured seal pups along the Lincolnshire coast. At Skegness Aquarium, visitors can see jellyfish, sharks and an octopus. At the Aqua Theatre and The Tunnel, you can also see blacktip reef sharks, stingrays and a zebra shark up close. Together, these offer different perspectives on marine life: the rescue of seal pups along the coast and the marine animals on display at the aquarium.

The aquarium also offers diving lessons and dive encounters with sharks, rays and other marine animals, led by experienced instructors. If you’d like to plan one of these activities, check the latest exhibition and activity details before your visit, as exhibits and bookable activities may change.

Coastal path and bus connections

The section of the King Charles III England Coast Path between Skegness and Mablethorpe is 16 miles (26 km) long. It runs mostly along the coastal defences, with some sections following the beach. This distance covers the full section between the two towns. Check current public path conditions before setting out.

The Skegness Seasiders bus service stops at major attractions and runs every ten minutes. If you’d like to plan your journeys around it, check the route and frequency in advance, as both may change.

Events and getting around

The Embassy Theatre Skegness hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Its programme offers a cultural focus alongside the beach, wildlife and local history. If you’d like to plan your visit around an event, check the date, as the programme changes.

The Embassy Theatre is a short walk from Skegness bus and railway stations. A bus stop directly outside the theatre is served regularly in the evening; next to it is a licensed taxi rank, with taxis operating day and night. These specific transport links are useful when planning an evening at an event. Check the latest timetable and event date in advance.
