For trip planning, Moschwitz offers a specific local point of reference: the Lindenhof. The wider destination of Greiz adds its own themes of architecture, city history and landscape. Which highlights you choose also depends on whether you are looking for a previously arranged event, palace history, an exhibition or a route through the countryside.
Lindenhof Moschwitz: family tradition and offerings
The Lindenhof Moschwitz has been run as a family business for more than 140 years. Celebrations and events are possible by arrangement; coordinate any planned event directly with the Lindenhof in advance. The Lindenhof also has a beer garden, which operates seasonally. If you would like to include it in your plans, check its current availability before your visit.
Culture in Greiz: palace history and the city
Greiz Upper Palace is an authentic example of small-state residential architecture. Visitors can experience permanent and special exhibitions featuring unique architectural and historical findings from the Romanesque period to Art Nouveau. At the museum, visitors can explore 800 years of building history through a computer animation, try on knight’s helmets and learn about table manners of the time in a sound chair. The combination of exhibitions and these hands-on and audio experiences offers different ways to engage with the palace’s architectural history.
At Greiz Lower Palace, the museum includes the exhibition “Greiz Textile History.” The Summer Palace is part of the Greiz architectural ensemble, which brings together architectural landmarks dating from the 12th to the 19th century. The Art Nouveau quarter is in the city center around Marktstraße and Thomasstraße. The highlights can be distinguished as follows: Upper Palace combines architectural history with interactive elements, Lower Palace presents textile history, while the Art Nouveau quarter offers a focus on the city center. The time periods provide different points of emphasis: at Upper Palace, the architectural and historical findings range from the Romanesque period to Art Nouveau, while the Greiz architectural ensemble brings together landmarks dating from the 12th to the 19th century.
Greiz offers another way to experience city history through a historical costume tour, which presents the city’s history and significant events at historic sites. The tour is available year-round by arrangement, so coordinate your date in advance.
Views and hiking in Greiz
From the Gasparinentempel, 65 meters above the valley floor, you can enjoy views of Greiz Upper Palace and the old town of Greiz. The temple is on the Greiz Circular Hiking Trail, on Stage 3 between Silberloch and Dölau, and is a special viewpoint. The Greiz Circular Hiking Trail is about 70 kilometers long, divided into several stages, and passes the sights and viewpoints of the city of Greiz. This means a single viewpoint and a multi-stage trail offer different scales: the approximately 70 kilometers refer to the entire circular trail, not just Stage 3.
The Greiz city animal enclosure is located within the Greiz-Werdauer Wald landscape conservation area.
