Bocka can be explored through a variety of themes: the Baroque organ in the church in Großbocka, routes with specific destinations, and Hohe Reuth on the B2. This gives you the opportunity to consider culture and hiking while also taking a bus connection into account. The places and routes mentioned offer different starting points rather than prescribing a set itinerary.

Church, concerts and trails in Bocka

The church is in Großbocka, a district of Bocka, and was built between 1753 and 1756. At concerts, you can listen to the sound of its Baroque organ. Architecture and music come together here. If a concert is important to your travel plans, check in advance whether a performance date fits your travel dates.

Hiking trails and a nature trail with visual features lead to Münchenbernsdorf. Another specific route option is the small rest area with the bench “Im Wiesengrund Bocka”: from there, you can choose between the meadow path and the forest path to Schöna. The route descriptions therefore have different points of reference: Münchenbernsdorf is the main destination for the hiking trails and nature trail, while at the rest area you can choose between two named paths in the direction of Schöna.

Hohe Reuth is another local point of interest. It lies on the B2 and has been a destination for excursions since 1827. Alongside the church’s dated construction history, it offers a useful historical contrast: here, the church was built between 1753 and 1756; there, Hohe Reuth has a long tradition as an excursion destination. These details highlight different aspects of Bocka without combining them into a single circular route.

Bus connection and practical planning

The Gera–Schleiz bus route and the Kleinbocka stop are listed for this journey. Check the current timetable before setting out so you can plan your trip around your travel dates. To choose between a concert, trail destinations and Hohe Reuth, it helps to first decide which theme you want to focus on during your stay. This makes it easier to fit a concert date, a route or an excursion destination into your own travel plans.

Culture in the wider destination of Greiz

The wider destination of Greiz offers an even broader range of cultural attractions. Since 2010, the permanent exhibition “From the Land of the Vogts to the Principality of Reuss Elder Line” has been housed in the Upper Castle in Greiz. It covers the history of the Vogts, lords, imperial counts and imperial princes of Reuss, as well as the associated culture of small-state residences. The museum also offers a multimedia history experience with a computer-animated account of the building’s history and an interactive journey through time.

The Lower Castle in Greiz houses a museum and a textile demonstration workshop. Established in 1998, the workshop showcases the production and history of Greiz’s textile industry; children and adults can take part in the manual production process. Its focus differs from the history of the princely residence presented in the Upper Castle: here, the focus is on textile production, while there it is on the history of rule and residential culture. The Summer Palace in Greiz was built as a summer residence for the Princes of the Elder Line of Reuss and is one of the earliest Neoclassical buildings in Central Germany.

Scenery and activities in Greiz

The wider destination of Greiz also offers options for those interested in scenery and outdoor activities. Greiz Park lies at the foot of the wooded castle hill. As a 19th-century landscape park, the ensemble as a whole is designated a national cultural monument. In Ronneburg, the “Drachenschwanz” adventure bridge is 225 metres long and forms part of a long-distance cycle route. The BUGA accompanying project “Wege in die Neue Landschaft” also includes a network of high-quality cycling, horse-riding and hiking trails in the region.

Wünschendorf offers various options for activities on the water. At the gondola station in Cronschwitz, you can rent a rowboat for a fee and explore the White Elster. The Kanu-Scheune offers the chance to build your own boat and test whether it floats; tours in ready-made canoes are also available. These are different kinds of activities: renting a rowboat focuses on exploring the White Elster, while the Kanu-Scheune combines boatbuilding with canoe tours. If you plan to take part in one of these current activities, it is advisable to check availability in advance.
