Gösdorf offers two easy-to-distinguish starting points for planning a trip: its direct location on the B 180 and a local history associated with the nickname “Sichelmutz.” A cycling tour crosses the main road at the entrance to the village and continues toward Ziegelheim.
Getting Here and Finding Your Way
Bus route 328 connects Gösdorf with Altenburg, Gößnitz and Schmölln. Check the current timetable before travelling. This means you can factor a specific bus connection into your travel plans, in addition to the road connections.
Local History and Language
A village chronicle mentions Gösdorf around 1336 under the spelling “Göswinsdorf.” Locally, the village is commonly known as “Sichelmutz.” “Mutzähre” and “Mutzbraten” also remain part of local speech. These names give the village’s history a linguistic dimension: the older spelling refers to a historical form of the name, while the other two expressions belong to today’s local vocabulary.
The village’s history also includes a probable second period of reconstruction in the 16th century. Gösdorf is also home to a medieval church, originally built around 700 years ago. Together, the history of the name, local expressions and the church offer different perspectives on the village, without any one period defining its entire history.
Cycling Tour at the Village Entrance
The “From the Sprottetal to the Wieratal” cycling tour crosses the B 180 at the entrance to Gösdorf. It then follows a partly unpaved track and field road toward Ziegelheim. The change in surface is a practical detail to consider when planning the tour; check current trail conditions before you set off. In addition to the direction, the terrain is another useful point of reference on this route.
More Places to Visit in the Nobitz Destination
In the municipality of Nobitz, the Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz Museum explores the history of the airfield and aviation through a wide range of exhibits. The collection includes, among other things, a MiG-21 SPS and a Breguet BR1150 “Atlantic.” The museum is open from April to October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the seasonal opening hours before your visit.
Natural attractions and trails also offer more ways to explore Nobitz. Märchensee is in Leinawald Forest. The Pleiße Cycle Path runs through Nobitz, where it intersects the “Altenburg - Colditz” cycling tour. The sculpture trail follows the Sprotte through the municipality as far as Selleris weir. These routes follow different paths and have different connections within the wider destination.
In Saara, a district of Nobitz, the Naturoase has three large information boards covering the mill, park avenue trees, the birdhouse, nesting boxes and hedges. Five smaller information boards cover a millstone, a baking recipe, two puzzles and a specimen tree. The grounds also include a wooden mill that visitors can enter, with seating for children. The boards and mill offer specific themes to help guide a visit to this Nobitz attraction.
