Route C runs through Papendorf and Langelohe and follows the former route of the SĂĽdstormarn District Railway. This gives Brunsbek a tangible connection to cycling and history. Nature conservation, church art in Siek and farm shops add further highlights to your trip planning.
Nature conservation around Papendorf
The “Corbek, Brunsteichbach and Brunsbach” nature conservation area also includes land in Brunsbek. East of Papendorf, woodland and grassland are part of the protected area. One of its aims is nature-friendly recreation through experiencing and enjoying nature and the countryside. The protected landscape thus provides a focus in its own right alongside the history of the former railway line.
Route C and the history of the railway line
Route C is specifically described as a cycling option: it runs through Papendorf and Langelohe and follows the former railway line. There are signposts and nine information boards along the route, including boards in both districts. The Südstormarn District Railway opened in 1907 and closed in 1952. The historical context and the route as it runs today give the trail a special connection to the region’s transport history. As signposting and information boards may change, check the information before your ride.
The Stormarn Village Museum is also a highlight along Route C. If you plan to visit the museum, check its opening arrangements separately. Another cycling route detail concerns the district of Papendorf: in 2019, a roughly 2 km section of the cycle path from the southern part of Papendorf to State Road 92 was resurfaced and widened to 2.50 m. As this work dates from 2019, check the current condition if the exact state of the path is important to your plans.
Cycling in the wider Stormarn destination
The wider Stormarn destination has more than 20 circular cycling routes. In addition, BahnRadWege (railway cycle routes) follow the tracks of three former railway lines through the region’s countryside. This provides a broader framework for regional cycling plans than the individual Route C, which runs through Papendorf and Langelohe.
Parish and architectural history
The Brunsbek districts of Papendorf, Langelohe and Kronshorst belong to the Siek parish. Friedenskirche in Siek houses a bronze baptismal font from the mid-14th century. The church also invites visitors to explore traces of around 800 years of architectural history. The font and the building’s history offer different perspectives on its cultural heritage: the font dates from a specific period, while the long architectural history spans several eras.
Farm shops in Langelohe and Kronshorst
In Langelohe, Fischer's Milchtankstelle sells fresh milk around the clock, seven days a week. In Kronshorst, Kronshorster Lindenhof runs a farm shop selling meat, sausages, fresh eggs, yoghurt, cheese and seasonal vegetables. Fresh smoked fish is available there once a month; rolls, bread and cake are available on Saturdays. The shops’ offerings therefore differ both in their products and in how often they are available. As product ranges and offerings may change, check what is available in advance if you have particular items in mind.
