Architecture and history

Settlement of Königsmoor is said to have begun after the Thirty Years’ War, advancing from the marshland through Altenmoor and Bullendorf. The traditional hall house at Altenmoor 10 is single-storey, thatched and dates from the late 19th century. Its internal timber framing, however, is dated to the 18th century; the complex also includes a former through-hall and a summer-house extension. Historically, the building has shaped the appearance of the village and cultural landscape. Altenmoor 13, a residential and agricultural building, also contributes to this character. Some farmhouses retain brick façades, historic timber frames, or both, and are considered especially worthy of preservation. The local architectural heritage is therefore evident not in just one building, but in several parts of the village’s building stock.

Cycling and crafts

The 34-kilometre Kiebitztörn is signposted as a Glücks-Route and passes through Altenmoor. Near the village, the Kiebitztörn cycle network connects north to the Sommertörn and southwest to the Obsttörn. The Glücks-Route’s length gives you a concrete indication for planning your cycling distance; the connecting routes open up further options in the network. Britta’s pottery workshop, a small ceramics studio in Altenmoor, offers a different focus.
