Blunk brings together cycling routes, Blunker See and Holstein cuisine, offering different ways to enjoy a stay. Along Landpartie 1, the village is part of a loop through several municipalities; at the lake, a freely accessible bathing area and activities centred on the moor and water take centre stage. Regional dishes and historical connections round out the experience. To plan your trip, first consider whether cycling, time by the water, or culinary and historical discoveries should be your priority.

Cycling between Landpartie and the former railway line

Landpartie 1 runs from Bad Segeberg via Blunk, Muggesfelde, Nehms, Krems II, Warder, Rohlstorf, Quaal and Klein Rönnau, returning to Bad Segeberg. The sequence of villages shows how Blunk is part of a loop that includes several other stops. The Landpartie cycling routes are about 20 to 30 kilometres long and use sections with little traffic or no cars. The approximate distance gives you a guide for planning your tour; check the route conditions before setting off.

A cycling route to Blunk uses the former narrow-gauge railway embankment between Bad Segeberg and Kiel. At Blunker See, Landpartie 1 branches off from this former railway cycling route towards Muggesfelder See. This distinguishes two route connections: the railway embankment as part of a cycling route to Blunk, and the onward route of Landpartie towards Muggesfelder See. Check the signs and surface conditions before your ride as well.

Blunker See: swimming and activities

On the north-west shore of Blunker See, there is a freely accessible bathing area with a sandy beach, sunbathing lawn, designated non-swimmer area, jetty and toilets. Parking is limited. The facilities make the bathing area a distinct focal point for a lakeside stay; bear the limited parking in mind when planning your journey.

Activities around the moor and lake include hiking, jogging, Nordic walking, cycling, horse riding and carriage rides. The options range from getting around on foot or by bike to horse riding and carriage rides. You can also plan your stay around activities in the area of the moor and lake, independently of the bathing area.

Holstein cuisine and seasonal dishes

Zum Alten Bahnhof in Blunk serves homemade sour meat and matjes as regional Holstein specialities. Seasonal dishes on the menu have also included asparagus, matjes or smelt, game dishes and kale. Alongside regional classics, you can therefore choose dishes with a seasonal focus. Seasonal menus change, so it is best to check the current selection before dining.

Landscape and history

Blunk lies on the edge of a bird migration route. Blunker Bach also connects the village to its history: it formed the Limes Saxonia, a boundary between Slavic and Saxon territories. In Blunk, a nature feature and a historical border sit alongside practical options for cycling, swimming and dining.
