Leck lies at the transition from fertile marshland to the sandier geest. The two types of landscape shape the town in different ways and provide a sense of place for a stay where nature and local history go hand in hand. The Lecker Au is also part of the area’s historical context: in the past, older types of boats could navigate it as far as Leck.

Church and local history

St. Willehad Church was built around 1150 as a Romanesque structure at the highest point of the original harbour settlement. The church houses a carved altar from the workshop of Claus Berg, dated 1520. The building and the altar offer different points of reference for the town’s history.

Leck-Huus is a cultural and events centre in Leck. It was built in 1856 as a Geestharden farmhouse and was fully extended in 2005. The ground floor is accessible to people with disabilities. If this feature is important for your plans, check the latest information before your visit.

Circular routes and trails in the surrounding area

A local circular route leads to the site of the former Leckhuus castle, the area of the former harbour and the historic fishermen’s houses. It links these stops with local historical context. A circular walking route of around 7 km connects history, nature and technology. It is suitable for walkers, cyclists, joggers and people out for a stroll; its amenities include signposts, seating and information boards.

Near Leck, Langenberger Forst has six marked trails. Three permanent routes range from 3.4 to 11 kilometres and are intended for walking, cycling or horse riding. The western Ochsenweg near Leck is protected as an archaeological monument and is considered a valuable natural area. Two of North Frisia’s 16 cycling routes also start at Leck’s Rathausplatz: the Geest-Deich-Tour and the Ochsenwegroute. Route information and signage may change, so check the latest details before setting out.

Water and activity

Leck leisure pool has a non-swimmer area, 25-metre lanes and a bathing area for small children. It also features a 90-metre slide with a starry-sky effect and diving boards at heights of one and three metres. Saunas, a steam room and a whirlpool round out the facilities. As features may change, check what is currently available before your visit.

Canoe trips on the Lecker Au offer a way to take in the landscape from the water. Availability may vary by season, so check in advance what is possible during your travel dates.
