Three distinct points of reference can help you plan a stay in Neumark: the swimming complex with its water and play areas, the church in the town center, and the town’s location on the edge of the Vogtland. This gives you a perspective ranging from specific things to do in town to the wider regional setting. When looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether swimming or getting here by road and rail will have a greater influence on your stay.
Swimming complex: water, lawn and sports
Neumark’s swimming complex has a pool, a 25-meter slide, around 600 m² of water surface and approximately 4,500 m² of sunbathing lawn. Other facilities include volleyball, table tennis and soccer, a playground and a baby pool, as well as areas for swimmers and non-swimmers. You can choose what to do depending on your interests that day: swim, use the slide, play sports or spend time on the lawn. This combination makes the complex a specific activity to enjoy, rather than describing Neumark only in terms of its location. If the swimming complex is a deciding factor in your plans, check the current opening hours before your visit.
Town center and getting here
Neumark is served by the B 173 and lies on the Hof–Leipzig and Hof–Görlitz railway lines. Road and rail are two specific options for getting here. Check the timetable for your intended travel date. There is a church in the town center. It is a clear landmark to help you orient yourself in town.
The Vogtland as a regional setting
Neumark lies on the edge of the Vogtland. The wider Vogtland travel destination brings together a variety of cultural themes. In Klingenthal, the Sparkasse Vogtland Arena is one of Europe’s most modern large ski jumping hills. An adventure railway takes visitors to the 32-meter-high inrun tower, which offers views across Klingenthal. In Markneukirchen, the Musical Instrument Museum displays the world’s largest playable violin. Instrument making also has a long history in the region: musical instruments have been made in the Upper Vogtland for more than 350 years. The arena and the musical tradition thus represent different highlights within the Vogtland.
Other regional themes include architecture, landscape and cuisine. The Royal Spa Gardens of Bad Elster combine extensive historic parks with spa architecture of major cultural and historical significance. Bad Elster also has ten mineral springs and natural moor. The Göltzsch Viaduct is one of the two largest brick bridges in the world. The Vogtland Panorama Trail is 225 kilometers long—a different scale of planning from a single town destination.
Cycling and regional cuisine can also be part of your Vogtland plans. Most cycle routes in the Vogtland are near bus or train stops. Bicycles can be carried free of charge in the Vogtland, subject to vehicle capacity. Green dumplings, a Vogtland specialty, are made from raw, grated potatoes. Regular potato tastings are held at Gündel’s Kulturstall in Reichenbach; a potato market takes place there in autumn. Check current dates before planning your visit.
