Church architecture, local history and outdoor activities offer different ways to shape a stay in Mülsen. There are also leisure activities both indoors and outdoors. To plan your visit, first decide whether you mainly want to include historic buildings, insights into past ways of life and work, or active pursuits. Traveling by train requires a closer look at connections.

Churches from Different Eras

The Church of the Holy Cross in Ortmannsdorf was built in 1856. It seats around 600 people and has two galleries. The two galleries give the church interior a distinctive structure. The church in Thurm offers a different emphasis: the Baroque building was consecrated in 1731 and is one of Saxony’s three “Urban Churches.” The open lantern atop the west tower stands 48 meters above the ground. The construction period, style and tower design are specific features that distinguish the two churches.

Everyday Life and Work at the Local History Museum

The Mülsen St. Niclas Local History Museum takes visitors back to the period around the turn of the 20th century: its more than 1,000 exhibits reflect this era. It also recreates family life in a house typical of those inhabited by small-scale tradespeople or workers. Mining, crafts and agriculture are among the topics with local connections. The museum thus presents domestic life alongside different kinds of work. Anyone interested in local history will find not only individual objects here, but also a depiction of how families lived in a typical house.

Indoor and Outdoor Leisure Activities

Mülsen Outdoor Pool has a swimming pool, a non-swimmer pool and a baby pool. The facilities also include a playground, a beach volleyball court, and food and drinks. The pool holds more than 3,400 cubic meters and is considered the largest in western Saxony; this comparison may change if other facilities are expanded.

At Arena E, the indoor and outdoor activities differ. The indoor hall offers races with electric karts and electric pit bikes. Outdoors, track lengths range from 450 to 1,315 meters; combustion-engine karts and electric pit bikes are available there. You can choose between indoor racing and an outdoor track with a stated range of lengths.

The Genusshof adds Pit Pat—table minigolf with 18 holes—to the options. There are also two escape rooms, a café, beach volleyball and an outdoor scavenger hunt using a tablet. The activities range from a tabletop game to outdoor pursuits; when planning, you can choose based on the kind of leisure activity you want.

A Walk Through Mülsen St. Jacob

Mülsen lies among the gentle hills of the foothills of the Ore Mountains. A walk through Mülsen St. Jacob can take in historic half-timbered houses, former coal-mining headframes, the spoil heap of the Martin-Hoop-Werk IV mine and the steep, wooded eastern slope of the Mülsengrund valley. A possible route therefore combines architectural and mining heritage with a wooded hillside. The walk offers a different perspective on the area from visiting churches or taking part in leisure and recreational activities.

Plan Your Train Journey

Mülsen has no direct rail connection; the nearest major railway stations are in Zwickau and Glauchau. Check the train connections and the status of the stations mentioned again before you travel. This is worth including in your plans if you want to combine your stay with train travel.
