Röhrsdorf offers two distinct reasons to visit: the Baroque St. Bartholomew’s Church with its organ history, and hiking trails that pass through the village. The Saubachtal–Röhrsdorf–Regenbachtal circular trail is about ten kilometres long and takes approximately three to four hours. There is also a specific distance given for the section between Neudeck Mill and Röhrsdorf. This makes it possible to decide during the planning stage whether to focus on a several-hour circular route or on a single section.

St. Bartholomew’s Church and its organ history

St. Bartholomew’s Church was rebuilt from 1737 to 1739. As a Baroque hall church, it is the village’s cultural focal point. Its furnishings include the pulpit altar, baptismal angel, freestanding altar table and the decorations in the box pews; these were created by Dresden court sculptor Benjamin Thomae. Together, these features do more than establish the building’s period: they also reflect the specific artistic design of the church interior. Those interested in Baroque architecture will find a clearly defined point of interest in the village.

The organ’s history also encompasses several stages. The Jehmlich organ installed in 1888 is considered the first organ in Röhrsdorf Church to use a pneumatic system. Technical renovation of the Röhrsdorf Jehmlich-Voigt organ began in 2014; the pipes and case of the previous organ were reused. These two dates represent different aspects: 1888 marks the introduction of the pneumatic system, while 2014 marks the renovation and preservation of older components.

Hiking: Circular route and literary trail

Allow about three to four hours for the Saubachtal–Röhrsdorf–Regenbachtal circular trail. The route is approximately ten kilometres long and starts and ends in Constappel. You can reach the village by bus route 404 or by car; if travelling by bus, it is advisable to check the timetable. On the circular trail, the section between Neudeck Mill and Röhrsdorf is about 2.5 kilometres long. In addition to the total distance, this section provides a specific guide for planning your stages.

Another hiking route, the Wulf Kirsten Trail, passes through Röhrsdorf. Along Klipphausen’s Wulf Kirsten Trail, poems at various stops invite visitors to read, interpret and reflect. This gives the route a literary dimension that differs from the clear time and distance parameters of the Saubachtal circular trail. If you would like to include texts and their interpretation in your hike, this offers another way to discover Röhrsdorf.

Memorial cross and Advent tradition

A stone cross dating from the 14th or 15th century stands at Kirchberg 4. This cross-shaped memorial commemorates someone who died as a result of homicide or an accident. It offers a different historical focus from the church: the emphasis here is not on the design of a building, but on a specific act of remembrance.

Advent is another cultural tradition associated with the village. Every year, children and young people perform a traditional nativity play in the altar area of Röhrsdorf Church. The time of year provides a specific point of reference when planning a stay. If you would like to see the nativity play, check the dates for the relevant year in advance.
