Frohburg Castle is the town’s oldest building. The town’s history also includes St. Michaelis Church and the Centaur Fountain on the market square; potteries in the Frohburg district of Kohren-Sahlis showcase traditional crafts. The town also offers guided walks and routes for hikers and cyclists. To help with your planning, you can organize your visit to Frohburg around different interests: architectural and church history, regional pottery traditions, or routes that pass through nature reserves.
The Castle and the Town’s History
The present four-winged building developed from a stone complex dating to around 1200. Its current form took shape in the 16th century, incorporating three medieval tower structures from the 13th century. The Frohburg Museum has been housed in the castle since 1974.
St. Michaelis Church also offers several points of reference across different periods. It was first mentioned in 1233; the sacristy is probably its oldest part. In 1877, the church was completely redesigned inside and out in the neo-Gothic style. The altar area contains nine oil paintings of Frohburg pastors, created between 1613 and 1849. The Centaur Fountain has adorned Frohburg’s market square since 1899.
