In Radeberg, brewery history and the history of the town come together with various ways to spend time outdoors. A guided brewery tour focuses on beer, while Klippenstein Castle explores the town’s history. The Storchennest Botanical Blind Garden and Hüttertal each offer something different. What you can combine easily depends on whether you are more interested in culture, a tasting or longer hikes.

Klippenstein Castle and Radeberg’s History

Klippenstein Castle dates back to a medieval fortress and was converted into a hunting lodge under Duke Moritz in the 16th century. The museum gives the town’s history its own place: the permanent exhibition traces Radeberg’s development from its founding as a town to the mid-19th century. Original artefacts from several centuries illustrate crafts and trade, as well as women’s working lives.

The museum collection documents more than 800 years of the history of Radeberg and its residents. Its time span is therefore broader than that of the permanent town history exhibition. A free audio guide with 31 short chapters leads visitors through the castle complex and permanent exhibitions. This lets you explore the history of the castle and the town as distinct but interconnected topics.

Brewery Tour, Tasting and Town Walk

The Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei offers guided visits focused on the art of brewing and Radeberger Pilsner. A tour lasts around two hours and includes tastings of Radeberger Pilsner and unfiltered Zwickel. If you plan to take the tour, check the duration and tasting options again before your trip.

The brewery is about 300 metres from Radeberg railway station. Regional trains, S-Bahn services and buses run from there. As transport connections can change, it is advisable to check the current timetable before travelling.

A historical town tour runs from the brewery to Klippenstein Castle. Along the way are historic sites, former industrial locations and traditional businesses. The tour is available by arrangement. The children’s tour “Radeberg Up and Down” is also available by arrangement: photo cards, the historic town wall and former main gates serve as discovery stops.

Another glimpse of the region’s food and drink culture awaits at the Radeberger Distillery & Liqueur Factory. Visits to historic rooms and the Original Radeberger herbal liqueur are the main focus. Check the booking arrangements in advance if you would like to include this visit in your plans.

Hiking, Gardens and Outdoor Activities

Hüttertal is considered a destination for longer hikes in the Radeberg area. The Storchennest Botanical Blind Garden offers a different way to experience the plant world: around 1,300 plant species grow across 20,000 square metres, including about 700 fragrant species. The 1.5-kilometre main path is equipped with a handrail, and raised beds have areas where plants can be explored by touch.

The Dresdner Heide is another option for outdoor activities. It is considered suitable for cycling and, in winter, skiing. This complements the longer hikes in Hüttertal with other ways to get active and a seasonal change of pace.

Visiting a Mill in Radeberg

Schlossmühle Radeberg is considered the only mill in Radeberg and the surrounding area that can be visited while it is operating. If you are considering a visit, check the current arrangements in advance.
