In the south of Lauta lies Torno Pond, with two sandy beach areas. It is a dedicated leisure destination; the Garden City Cycling Tour and a themed trail offer other points of interest. The Laubusch Local History Museum adds local history and the development of lignite mining to the historical perspective. This gives you a choice of different interests during your stay.
Torno Pond: Leisure by the Water
In addition to its two beach areas, Torno Pond has a volleyball court, a playground, a snack bar, a stage for outdoor events and opportunities for fishing. This mix of sports, play, refreshments, events and fishing makes the pond a versatile leisure destination. As individual facilities and responsibilities may change, check the latest information before your visit.
Garden City Cycling Tour
The approximately 39-kilometre Garden City Cycling Tour connects Marga, Lauta and Erika in Laubusch. It passes through the planned residential areas, gardens and green spaces of these garden cities, making their planned settlement layout the central theme of the route. Those interested in urban and settlement planning will find a different focus here than at the pond. Route details may be revised, so check the route before setting off.
Themed Trail and Local History Museum
An approximately 2-kilometre themed trail runs from Torno Pond to Johannisthal. At 14 stops, information panels explain early industrialisation, raw materials used in glassmaking and the area's mineral resources. Two covered shelters provide places to rest and picnic along the route. The stops link historical development with specific topics relating to raw materials.
The Laubusch Local History Museum focuses on the history of the former Sorbian settlement of Lubus, the mining community of Laubusch, local schools and churches, and the development of lignite mining. Visits are by prior appointment; please confirm the appointment again before your visit.
For planning purposes, the options differ in route length and the need to make arrangements: the themed trail is around 2 kilometres long, the Garden City Cycling Tour is approximately 39 kilometres, and a visit to the Local History Museum requires an appointment. Torno Pond brings together several leisure activities.
