Goldbeck has cycling routes through the town, horse-riding trails within the municipality, and fieldstone churches in Bertkow and Plätz. The Elbe-Uchte Trail runs through Goldbeck and provides an alternative connection between Uchtspringe and Arneburg on the Altmark Circuit. There are also paved cycle paths and a connection to the Stendal–Wittenberge railway line.
Cycling and Horse Riding in the Municipality
The Elbe-Uchte Trail is the named cycling route through Goldbeck and an alternative connection between Uchtspringe and Arneburg on the Altmark Circuit. The paved cycle paths complement this route information. Goldbeck is also connected to the Stendal–Wittenberge railway line.
There is also a clear route connection for horse riding: the districts of Bertkow and Plätz can be reached on horseback via the Sternreiten in der Altmark (Star Ride in the Altmark). By bicycle, Route B of the Arneburg-Goldbeck Association Municipality leads there. In Goldbeck, an information board provides details about the Sternreiten in der Altmark horse-riding project.
Möllendorf has a public area for festivals, play and barbecues, with hitching facilities for horses. It is next to a cycling and horse-riding trail. The municipality therefore brings together a range of activities: cycling routes through Goldbeck, horse-riding routes and facilities in Möllendorf.
Fieldstone Churches in Bertkow and Plätz
Bertkow and Plätz are home to typical fieldstone churches dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. They are surrounded by walls made of fieldstone and brick. The churches and their enclosures thus share an architectural feature: fieldstone defines both, while the walls also incorporate brick. Those interested in the architectural history of the districts will find a different focus here from the cycling and horse-riding routes.
The churches are in the districts that can be reached on horseback via the Sternreiten in der Altmark and by bicycle via Route B. This makes it possible to connect the place names with the respective routes when finding your way around.
More to Explore in the Wider Stendal Destination
The wider Stendal destination offers other, distinct experiences. At Stendal Zoo, visitors can observe more than 500 animals from 75 species at close range. Children can feed and pet goats in the petting area and then enjoy the adventure playground. This is a different kind of outing from Goldbeck’s routes and churches.
History also has its own highlights in the wider Stendal destination. From 1373 to 1378, Tangermünde Castle served as a secondary residence of Emperor Charles IV, alongside the Hradčany in Prague. Tangermünde is considered a tourist attraction, with a fascinating city skyline and a very well-preserved medieval town centre. Stendal’s St. Mary’s Church has a gilded high altar dating from 1471, one of the most significant woodcarvings of its time in northern Germany.
In Schönhausen, the Bismarck Museum displays gifts received by Otto von Bismarck, personal belongings and historical images. It offers public and group tours, as well as events focused on historical and political education. Otto von Bismarck’s baptismal church in Schönhausen, St. Mary and St. Willebrord, is part of the Romanesque Road and has Baroque furnishings. Its altarpiece is eight metres high. These destinations complement Goldbeck’s local cycling, horse-riding and church highlights with museums and cultural attractions in the wider Stendal destination.
