Neinstedt combines the historic Marienhof on the edge of town with its location on the banks of the Bode. A circular hike on the Teufelsmauerstieg also begins nearby. These offer two distinct highlights to consider when planning your visit: a farm visit with a café and playground, and a hike featuring several named rock formations and sections of trail.
Marienhof: Café, Juice Press and Playground
The Marienhof in Neinstedt is a historic farm. Guests can have their own fruit pressed into juice. This service is available seasonally; check its current availability with the operator before visiting. The café at the Marienhof serves breakfast, a small lunch menu, coffee and homemade cake.
The Marienhof also has an adventure playground with a small petting zoo. In suitable weather, the playground is open for play during café hours. If you plan to visit, take both the weather and the café’s opening hours into account. This helps you fit the farm’s offerings into your day without losing sight of the conditions for using the juice press and playground.
Teufelsmauerstieg: Circular Hike Route
The circular hike on the Teufelsmauerstieg begins at the Teufelsmauer car park by the Bode bridge between Weddersleben and Neinstedt. After a short climb, the trail reaches the Teufelsmauer and the Königsstein. A wooden staircase leads downhill; the route then passes the Mittelsteine.
Next, the trail reaches the paved Thalenser Chaussee. After just a few metres, a path branches off and climbs gently to the Papensteine. The route continues past the rocks along a paved farm track. The signs there point towards Thale and Neinstedt; the Kaiserkrone is used as a trail marker.
To return to the car park, a hiking trail follows the Bode and is signposted to Neinstedt and Weddersleben. The route description thus provides specific landmarks from the start at the Bode bridge, past Königsstein, Mittelsteine and Papensteine, and back to the starting point. Check current trail conditions before setting off.
Getting There and Planning Excursions
Neinstedt is on the Magdeburg–Thale railway line and is easy to reach even for travellers without a car. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable before setting off. The circular trail has its own starting point at the Teufelsmauer car park between Weddersleben and Neinstedt. Plan your journey to Neinstedt and your trip to the trailhead as separate parts of your journey.
More Places to Visit in Thale
Thale also offers its own cultural and outdoor attractions. The Thalenser Mythenweg is a themed walking trail from the exit of the Bode Gorge to Thale’s old town. Thirteen sculptures by various artists line the route. Another option is the Teufelsmauer themed hiking trail, which runs through Thale and passes all the distinctive rock formations of the Teufelsmauer. These trails are in Thale and should be distinguished from the circular hike on the Teufelsmauerstieg near Neinstedt.
The Wendhusen Monastery is part of Thale’s history; it was founded in Wendhusen in 825. The settlement of Wendhusen is now part of Thale’s old town. The DDR Museum Thale focuses on home and everyday life in East Germany. The Harzer Bergtheater on the Hexentanzplatz offers culture in the open air. Its programme includes mystical tales, fairy tales, operettas, musicals, plays and concerts; the programme changes seasonally.
There are also two different lifts for excursions in Thale: the chairlift operated by Seilbahnen Thale Erlebniswelt takes you to the Rosstrappe rock massif, while the cable car takes you up to the Hexentanzplatz. Timetables are seasonal and should be checked before your trip. Thale is also a starting point for hikes into the Bode Gorge and for the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg trail.
When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the specific attractions in Neinstedt and those in Thale.
