Radegast offers several distinct ways to explore local history and design: the Fuhne Cycle Route passes the stud farm and the market square, the church tells of different construction phases, and white information boards explain changes to individual buildings. There are also landscaped places such as the cemetery garden and cemetery park. Travellers can therefore choose between architecture, local details and a route with several named features.
Places and details along the Fuhne Cycle Route
The Fuhne Cycle Route passes the stud farm and the market square in Radegast. Also on or near the route are a peace oak dating from 1871, a cemetery garden with carved wooden sculptures, a playground with a drinking-water fountain and a civic park. Their precise relationship to the route varies: the stud farm and market square are on the route, while the other features are on or near it. The peace oak is historically dated by its year; the wooden sculptures are a specific design feature in the garden. The playground has a drinking-water fountain, while the civic park is another notable place in Radegast.
Construction history and stained glass in the church
According to the Evangelical Church of Anhalt, Radegast Church is a neo-Romanesque brick church built in 1875. “Neo-Romanesque” describes the architectural style, while brick identifies the building material; the description thus specifies both the architectural classification and the material. The west tower from the previous building, dating from 1752, was also preserved. The two dates mark different construction phases: 1752 refers to the surviving tower, and 1875 to the construction of the neo-Romanesque church. Three windows by glass artist Thomas Kuzio in the apse and choir glow in rich, deep amber tones. The tower’s history and the windows’ colours offer different perspectives on the church building.
Buildings in the centre and the cemetery park
In the centre, white information boards on house walls explain the history of individual buildings and how they have changed over time to passers-by and tourists. The focus is therefore on several houses and their development, not solely on a single building such as the church. The Radegast local history room is listed at Marktplatz 1, 06369 Südliches Anhalt OT Radegast, under the classification “Museum / Gallery”.
The cemetery park offers a different perspective: an overgrown, barely accessible section of a cemetery covering 4,500 m² was redesigned as a place to linger. While the information boards explain individual buildings, here the focus is on the transformation of an entire area. The stated area and its former condition give the redesign a concrete sense of scale.
Landscape and craftsmanship
Radegast borders the “Cösitzer Teich” nature reserve to the southeast and the “Fuhneaue” landscape conservation area to the south. The different types of protected areas and the compass directions provide a brief geographical context for the town. The Radegast counterfeit coin workshop is a place to visit on the Fuhne Cycle Route. Visits to the counterfeit coin workshop are possible only by prior arrangement; visitors can watch medals being struck using a historic hand-operated screw press.
