A nature trail featuring information about local wildlife and plant life, forest areas on both sides of the village, and a bell tower with a story of its own shape the ways to explore Plodda. You can tailor your stay to suit your interests in observing nature, taking walks or exploring local history. The Muldestausee/Schlaitz recreation centre is also nearby.

Nature trail and forest areas

In June 2025, a nature trail around the area known as “Grassin” was opened in Plodda. It is about 2.5 kilometres long and leads through local flora and fauna. The Plodda nature trail features 15 information boards about the region’s plant and animal life, as well as tips on avoiding litter and treating nature with care. Many of the boards have QR codes: visitors can use their smartphones to listen to the calls of the animals featured. The trail thus combines information about local species with guidance on treating nature with care; the QR codes supplement the text with animal calls you can listen to.

The extensive forest areas north and south of Plodda are ideal for long walks. Visitors can observe the local flora and fauna or enjoy the tranquillity of the forest. Well-marked hiking trails run through Plodda. This lets you plan your day around either long walks in the woods or hiking trails through the village. Observing nature and following paths through Plodda are two distinct ways to tailor your stay to your interests.

Bell tower and local history

Plodda’s bell tower was built in 1869 and has a unique design. It was moved about 100 metres to the municipal cemetery using a large crane and a low-loader; it now stands beside the funeral hall. Its history therefore includes both its year of construction and distinctive design, as well as its relocation to its present site. The structure offers a different way to explore local history from the nature themes of the trail.

Another cultural feature of the village is its Schalmeienkapelle (a band that plays the shawm). In 2007, with 33 bands from across Germany and 723 participants, it set a world record in Plodda. The bell tower represents the village’s architectural history, while the record marks a musical event involving a large number of bands and participants. Those interested in local culture will find different historical subjects in these facts, rather than one single, uniform account of the village’s history.

Regional highlight: Muldestausee

The Muldestausee/Schlaitz recreation centre is located near Plodda. Sailing regattas, dragon boat competitions, and canoe or rowing events are regularly held on the Muldestausee’s 6.3-square-kilometre expanse of water. This regional attraction differs from the forest walks and local history of Plodda: here, water sports events on the Muldestausee take centre stage. If you would like to include an event like this in your travel plans, check the specific dates in advance.
