Hinterweidenthal combines the natural landmark of the Devil’s Table with paths and excursions offering a variety of experiences. The adventure park is located directly below the rock; other attractions include the Planet Trail, cycling routes into neighbouring Alsace and the Wieslauter Railway. You can plan your stay around a visit to the rock, a longer walk or a cycling tour.
The Devil’s Table and the adventure park
The Devil’s Table is a 14-metre-high, mushroom-shaped rock in the southern Palatinate Forest. It formed from sandstone layers around 250 million years ago. The Teufelstisch adventure park is located directly below it. Park facilities include a 50-metre giant slide, a cableway, a water play area and a picnic station. At the water play area, you can pump, dam and channel water. The park has accessible parking spaces and toilets; a large part of the park grounds can also be enjoyed by people with mobility or visual impairments. The operation and condition of individual facilities may change. Check which facilities are available before your visit.
The Planet Trail
The Planet Trail offers a thematic focus: information boards at its stations provide information about the planets. The approximately 12-kilometre route runs from Hinterweidenthal via Dahn to Bruchweiler-Bärenbach. Hinterweidenthal town centre and railway station are listed as the start and finish points. Plan the trail as a separate part of your itinerary if you want the route to be the focus of your day. The Planet Trail is accessible year-round; weather and trail conditions may affect your walk. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Rail and cycling
The Wieslauter Railway connects Hinterweidenthal with Bundenthal-Rumbach and runs through the Wieslauter Valley, past sandstone formations and dense forests. The Hinterweidenthal Ort stop serves the town centre. If you are planning a train journey, check the current timetable. Hinterweidenthal is also a starting point for cycling tours on well-marked cycle paths, including routes into neighbouring Alsace. Routes and signage may change; up-to-date information helps with planning. Rail and cycling offer different points of reference: for the train, the connection and timetable matter; for cycling, it is the chosen route and its signage.
Landscape setting: Südwestpfalz
The Palatinate Forest shapes the landscape of the wider Südwestpfalz destination. Well-maintained, marked paths lead through dense forests, over gentle hills and past red sandstone cliffs.
Brauhaus Ehrstein and regional cuisine
The brewery and adjoining Brauhaus Ehrstein restaurant are located at the foot of the Devil’s Table in Hinterweidenthal. The beer is brewed by hand using regional ingredients in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516. The menu includes 25 Flammkuchen specialities. This adds a culinary option to the nature and walking experiences. The menu may change; check the current selection in advance.
