A water-powered village mill, cycling routes through wine-growing and agricultural landscapes, and an outdoor pool overlooking the edge of the Haardt give Edesheim its distinctive character.

Vineyards, Cycling and Hiking Trails

Edesheim is surrounded by vineyards and lies in the Modenbach meadow landscape, with the forests of the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve in the background. Cycling routes around Edesheim pass vineyards, orchards, vegetable fields, farms and wine estates. The village is a starting point for numerous cycling tours and provides access to long-distance and themed routes. You can therefore choose a route to suit two different aims: a long-distance connection or a particular theme.

The Mill Hiking Trail connects Edesheim with the Garden of Eden hiking network and provides a link to hiking routes in the Palatinate Forest. Before setting out, check the current conditions on your chosen cycling or hiking route.

A railway station and bus connection make it easier to take cycling tours into the Rhine Plain or neighboring Alsace. If you plan to use these connections, check the current timetables before traveling.

The Village Mill

Of the seven mills that once stood along the Modenbach, the Edesheim Village Mill is the last remaining one. It is fully equipped, operational and powered by water. The village mill continues to offer fine and wholemeal flours; the integrated mill shop stocks spelt and organic products. The selection and availability may change. Group tours are available by prior appointment; confirm the date and availability in advance.

Outdoor Pool and Village Character

On hot days, Edesheim outdoor pool offers a chance to cool off and relax, with views toward the edge of the Haardt. The water is heated by solar energy; a two-level children’s paddling pool is connected by a slide, with a playground nearby. Facilities may change due to renovations. Check current opening and access information before visiting.

Sandstone architecture shapes Edesheim’s village character. A former moated castle in Edesheim is now used as a hotel and has a lakeside stage. As its use may change, check current access arrangements before traveling if you plan to visit the lakeside stage.

Beyond Edesheim: Southern Wine Route

The Southern Wine Route region is characterized by gently rolling vineyards along the Wine Route, the open landscapes of the Rhine Plain and the neighboring Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. An extensive network of hiking and cycling trails connects natural and cultural attractions there. Two regional hiking trails offer different options: the TrifelsErlebnisWeg is an easy 3.6-kilometer route with 18 play and learning stations. The Keschde-Erlebnisweg is a 6.1-kilometer, stroller-friendly circular route around Föhrlenberg focused on the Palatinate chestnut. Seasonal conditions may affect use of this trail.
