Beulich is situated on a ridge between the Ehrbach and Baybach valleys and within the Moselgebiet von Schweich bis Koblenz landscape conservation area. A stay here brings together a range of attractions: a forest forum in the Roskertal, hiking routes around the Ehrbach Gorge, Roman burial mounds and a historic parish church.
Forest Forum and Nature Around Beulich
The Roskerbach Forest Forum in the Roskertal is a biotope developed from the former Beulich forest swimming pool. As part of its restoration, natural stream courses were created and several information stations were added. The Forest Forum is considered a water playground. Covered seating, several benches and a small woodland stage are also part of the site. Its current use is therefore quite different from its former function as a forest swimming pool.
Another place of natural and historical interest is the Römergräber quiet forest, a naturally grown mixed forest near Beulich. Six Roman burial mounds at the entrance can be visited; guided tours are also possible. Confirm the availability of a tour before you travel. Parking is available for the quiet forest near the entrance and at the sports field.
Hiking and Cycling Connections
The EckmĂĽhle in the Ehrbach valley is a place for hikers to stop for refreshments, right by the Ehrbach Gorge. It is also a popular destination for day-trippers, families, cyclists and nature lovers. If you plan to stop there, check the latest opening details. Guided hikes through nearby gorge valleys may also be an option; confirm before travelling whether a tour is available.
The cycle route also has a direct connection to Beulich: the Schinderhannes-Untermosel Cycle Route passes right by the Grieshof holiday farm. The Kennelbachkreuz is a wayside cross on this cycle route near Beulich. This gives you two distinct points of interest to consider when planning your trip: a named landmark along the route and hiking destinations around the Ehrbach Gorge.
Church, Dialect and Theatre
The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius and Apollonia is a hall church dating from 1748; its Romanesque west tower was raised in 1838/39. In 1853, the church acquired a Stumm organ built by Friedrich and Ernst Stumm. The building’s history and the organ represent different historical milestones in the parish church’s story.
Historian Ferdinand Pauly believes that the parish was founded in the 11th century. A decision dated 18 July 1212 documents the church in Beulich. Visitors interested in local language and village life as well as the church’s history can find audio recordings with translations, along with information about village traditions, through the Beulicher Platt project.
L'UNA THEATER in Beulich has productions for children and adults in its repertoire. As schedules may change, check performance dates in advance. Along with the church and dialect project, the theatre offers another way to explore local culture, without requiring you to devote your entire stay to a single theme.
Getting There by Car
You can reach Beulich by car from the B 49 via Brodenbach and the L 206, from the B 327, or from the A 61 at Emmelshausen. When deciding what to include in your stay, you can consider the natural sites, cycling connections and cultural attractions separately or combine them.
