Oberraden combines moderate hikes with a stream, a viewpoint and a distinctive event tradition. Visitors can choose between a shorter and a longer route, while also exploring local water and village history. The individual destinations represent different aspects of a stay: walking the trails, enjoying the scenery along the Aubach and getting a glimpse of village life.
Hiking with two route lengths
The O1 is a moderate hike covering 6.5 kilometres; at 4.1 kilometres, the O2 is the shorter moderate route. The difference is 2.4 kilometres, while both trails are rated moderate. The O2 is a circular route that starts in Oberraden at the parking lot opposite Haus Waldblick. Sturdy shoes are sufficient for this route, and there are several opportunities to stop for refreshments along the way. Before setting out on the O1, check the route planner for temporary diversions. Route details for the O2 may also change temporarily, or closures may be in effect. Checking the latest route information will help you take these notices into account when planning.
The Aubach, scenery and other trail destinations
The 15.2-kilometre-long Aubach runs along Oberraden. The O2’s scenery also offers a range of impressions: distant views, meadows, fields and woodland define the route. The trail leads as far as Straßenhaus, where you can include the arboretum in your hike. This section takes you beyond Oberraden and adds a nearby destination to the village experience.
Water and local history
The Aubach spring “Bur” is a former well that once supplied Oberraden with water. Another historical feature is the Burhäuschen: the pump house was built in 1948 with an underground reservoir.
Village views and local tradition
The “Dorfblick” panoramic swing above the Jagdhaus offers a view across Oberraden. An interactive tour of Oberraden and Niederraden starts at a panoramic information board overlooking both settlements; a school garden is also part of the tour. The view across Oberraden and the outlook over both settlements thus provide two different points of reference.
The Kirmes festival is part of the local event tradition and draws visitors to the fairground at the entrance to the village. If the Kirmes is a deciding factor for your travel dates, check the specific event dates before making plans. This lets you combine interest in a local event with the hiking opportunities or points of local interest, rather than treating the Kirmes as part of a hiking route.
Plan your journey
Oberraden can be reached via the A3, B 256 and L 265. Together with the named starting point for the O2, this provides guidance for arriving and beginning this hike. When choosing between the two routes, the main factors are their lengths and the fact that both are rated moderate; the O2 also offers a circular route and the scenery described above.
