A hike led from the nature shelter in Wallau to Griesenbach, to an orchard meadow and a wet meadow, and back to Wallau. The shelter serves as a meeting point for the hiking group’s monthly hikes. It is also a starting point for herb workshops and guided tours of wild herbs in the surrounding area. This brings two topics together in Wallau: a specific hike and herbal knowledge.

Hiking and herb-related activities in Wallau

A herb garden is located on a plot in the Wallau district. The garden and herb tours focus on different things: one is about an herb garden on site, the other about wild herbs in the surrounding area. If you would like to include a hike, workshop or guided tour in your travel plans, check the relevant date in advance. The Westerwald Association Buchholz (Westerwald) has a herb garden of over 100 m² with medicinal, culinary and Mediterranean herbs.

Hiking trails in the wider destination of Buchholz (Westerwald)

In the wider destination of Buchholz (Westerwald), the municipality’s marked hiking trail network comprises routes A1 and B1–B3. Together, they are about 45 km long. The individual circular trails differ in length and difficulty: the easy A1 Basalt Trail is 10.0 km long. Also easy are the 11.6 km B1 Barger Heck Trail and the 12.5 km B2 Dreiherrenstein Trail. The hiking trails in the municipal area take you to various cultural or historical sites and nature reserves, which have information boards. The Westerwald Association’s Hiking Trail I covers a different scale: its 121.6 km route runs from Königswinter to Herborn and passes through the municipality of Buchholz. This places the local circular trails alongside a much longer route.
