Neupotz offers a range of themes to explore: observing nature in the Rhine floodplains, a Roman find, local history and flood protection. The ways to discover them also vary—from paths by the water and exhibitions to boat trips on Lake Setzfeld. You can tailor your trip to your own interests rather than giving every theme equal weight.

Rhine Floodplains and Paths by the Water

The Rhine floodplains of Neupotz are considered an important habitat for rare animal and plant species. The Fischerweg offers opportunities to observe rare bird species in the floodplains. The Seerosenweg is an idyllic riverside hiking trail with lovely views. The focus differs: the Fischerweg is about observing rare birds, while the Seerosenweg offers a waterside walk and views. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Roman History and the Lusoria Rhenana

In the 1980s, a Roman treasure comprising more than 1,000 objects and weighing a total of 700 kilograms was discovered in Neupotz. Another Roman attraction is the Lusoria Rhenana, which is based at Lake Setzfeld in Neupotz. Public trips are offered for individuals and small groups on the first Sunday of each month. There are also bookable recreational trips for groups of twelve or more. These group trips introduce participants to Roman history, rowing techniques, shipbuilding and the ship’s use in antiquity; moving the ship requires teamwork. Check trip dates and booking options before travelling.

Flood Protection and Local Development

At Haus Leben am Strom, exhibition panels, interactive screens and listening stations explain flood protection in the past and present. The museum places Neupotz’s development—from a fishing and basket-making village, through its years as a workers’ village, to a modern village—in this context. At the Wörth/Jockgrim flood retention polder in Neupotz, visitors can see how flood protection works. Expert-guided tours on foot or by bicycle are offered along the flood retention facility. If you are planning a tour, confirm its availability before your trip.

Village Life and Craft Traditions

The Neupotz Local History Museum displays objects from village life and handmade baskets associated with the town’s basket-making tradition. Its exhibits cover traditional trades such as shoemaking, basket-making, baking, fishing, saddlery, wagon-building and barbering. While Haus Leben am Strom explores Neupotz’s development in the context of flood protection, the Local History Museum focuses on everyday objects and craft traditions. These offer two different ways to explore local history.

Direct Sales and Fish Specialties

Several farm shops sell food directly from the farm; there is also a butcher and two bakeries. Fish specialties are also part of Neupotz’s dining scene. If you are planning to visit a particular farm shop or dine at a specific establishment, check ahead: the offerings of farm shops and restaurants may change.
