Jockgrim focuses on art, architectural history and the history of brickmaking. The art trail brings together 19 works of art in public spaces; the Zehnthaus Jockgrim is known for its half-timbered architecture and exhibitions, while the brickworks museum brings brick production to life. Other highlights include Hinterstädtel, the oldest part of Jockgrim, its town wall and a local recreation area with a gravel pit lake. These varied themes help you shape your stay around culture, local history or time by the water.

Art in Public Spaces and at the Zehnthaus

The Jockgrim art trail is a short discovery route featuring 19 works of art in public spaces. It is considered easy and safe to walk. Art thus becomes the focus of a stroll, while the Zehnthaus offers a different setting: this large half-timbered building was constructed in 1718 and houses art exhibitions. It is also regarded as a center for modern art. This gives you a clear distinction when choosing cultural highlights: works in public spaces on the one hand, and modern art exhibitions in a historic building on the other.

A Look at Brickmaking

The Jockgrim brickworks museum documents around a century of brickmaking history. The exhibition covers production from clay extraction to shipping, making the manufacturing process its focus. A restored original revolver press illustrates the brickworks’ former production method. The exhibit gives the process a tangible technical dimension, while the exhibition traces the stages from raw material to shipping. If you are interested in crafts and local history, this focus offers a different perspective from art and architectural history.

Hinterstädtel and the Town Wall

Hinterstädtel is considered the oldest part of Jockgrim; the town wall dates from the 15th century. Hinterstädtel, the town wall and Lina-Sommer-Platz are open to the public and are not subject to opening hours. This makes it easier to fit these three places into your day. The Woog footpath also runs alongside Jockgrim’s town wall. This means you can encounter the same wall both as part of the town’s history and along a walking route.

Gravel Pit Lake and Hiking Trail

Jockgrim’s gravel pit lake is in the Johanneswiesen local recreation area. The lake has clear water and well-maintained sandy and grassy areas for sunbathing. Seasonal access for swimming may vary; check before your visit if swimming is important to your plans. The Otterbachbruch hiking trail is another option and can be reached by public transport.

Getting Here and Finding Your Way

Jockgrim lies on the Schifferstadt–Wörth railway line; since 2010, the town has been connected to the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn on the Germersheim–Wörth section. There are freely accessible bicycle stands at the station, suitable for e-bikes. If you are travelling by public transport, check the connections that suit your stay in advance. The bicycle stands are another useful point of reference if you plan to bring an e-bike.
