The parish church of St. Lambert and the trails along the Dierbach give Lambertsberg two distinct sides: a glimpse into an important pilgrimage history and routes along the stream. For your planning, it is worth distinguishing the art-historical discoveries around the church from the trail details.

St. Lambert: Pilgrimage Church and Sacred Complex

The parish church of St. Lambert is a Late Gothic pilgrimage church built shortly after 1500. Early relics of Lambert of Liège made it an important pilgrimage site. The sacred complex includes an enclosing wall, the cemetery, a mortuary, a war memorial, a grotto and a large forecourt. The church grounds therefore comprise more than just the building itself.

A special feature inside the church is the pulpit, decorated with reliefs, dating from 1618. It was designed by Trier stonemason Hans Ruprecht Hoffmann. The date and attribution make the pulpit a specific point of interest if you would like to pay attention to the furnishings and their craftsmanship during your visit.

The market is also connected with the town: the market cross near St. Lambertus symbolized the peace of the market and the rights of those who took part in it peacefully. Historically, the Lambertus fair was among the Eifel’s most important livestock and annual markets; it was discontinued after the First World War. In October 2023, the parish church of St. Lambert was listed as an individual monument in the monument register of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm.

Trails along the Dierbach: Route and Starting Point

The Alois Path runs between Lambertsberg and Hargarten along the Dierbach. Another trail, the Islek Pfädchen, leads from Lambertsberg into the Dierbach valley. According to the route description updated on 6 July 2021, this hike is 3.4 kilometres long, rated easy and listed as taking one hour to walk.

The same description gives more detail about the trail: it follows narrow, partly overgrown paths and hand-built steps along the largely unspoilt Dierbach. The easy rating therefore sits alongside specific trail features that are also important for planning your outing. Check the current route and trail conditions before setting out.

The route description gives the shelter or barbecue hut outside the village as the starting point. Parking is available at the hut, about 600 metres outside the village. For travel by train, note that Lambertsberg has no direct rail connection. The description, updated on 6 July 2021, names Bitburg-Erdorf as the nearest train station; check current connections before deciding how to travel.
