From Rockenhausen railway station, a signposted footpath leads to the Museum of Time in five minutes. In the old town, independently owned shops invite you to enjoy a leisurely stroll. You can plan culture and a city walk as distinct focuses for your stay. Check local conditions on the footpath before setting out.
Old Town and Clocks in Rockenhausen
The Museum of Time – Palatinate Tower Clock Museum displays not only large clocks but also sundials, hourglasses, wall clocks and water clocks. The museum also has an astronomical clock and a carillon that plays different songs five times a day. The collection thus offers a variety of ways to explore timekeeping, from sundials to mechanical and water-powered timepieces.
The North Palatinate Local History Museum offers another cultural theme. Its exhibition, spread across two levels, focuses on the local history of the North Palatinate; audio and video stations complement the displays. The freely accessible outdoor area includes the Dolphin Fountain, a Roman fountain installation. Art enthusiasts can visit the Rockenhausen Museum of Art, which has a permanent exhibition of 20th-century paintings as well as regularly changing special exhibitions of contemporary art. Their content may vary.
City Walks and Nature Experiences
The Rockenhausen town walk passes the former water tower of the Alsenztal Railway. Built in 1871, the tower houses a Foucault pendulum. The ROK Tour “Beautiful Views” offers a different way to find your way: it is marked in green, and the recommended direction starts at Rockenhausen hiking station and follows the arrows. While the town walk passes a specific landmark, the ROK Tour’s markers and directional arrows help you choose your route. Check for temporary closures before setting out.
Rockenhausen Nature Adventure Pool uses biological and mechanical processes without chemicals to treat its water. This offers a distinct point of interest alongside the museums and town walks.
