Museums in the KulturViertel
The Schlosspark Museum presents collections on the manor, the town’s history, its history as a spa town and the Cauer family of sculptors. By combining local history with Roman remains, the two museums offer distinct yet closely neighbouring stops in the KulturViertel.
The history of the museum site is also part of the story: the museums of the city of Bad Kreuznach have been housed at Bangert manor since 1985/86. The listed former manor lies in a historic park. This brings the historic site and the museums’ present-day themes together in the same park setting, without limiting the subject matter to a single era.
PuK focuses on something different. Covering 900 square metres, it is dedicated to puppet theatre for all generations. Its themes include puppets from the Augsburger Puppenkiste, international puppet-theatre traditions and interactive stations, including traditions recognised by UNESCO. Visitors with a particular interest in theatrical forms and puppets will find a clear contrast here to the historical and collection-focused exhibitions in the other museums.
Architectural History and Cultural Landscape
The bridge houses are among the most distinctive buildings in Bad Kreuznach. Their construction began around 1480, prompted by a lack of space. The half-timbered buildings stand on the piers of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. The houses and bridge therefore tell the story of different building periods: the bridge is older, while the bridge houses were added later.
The wider Bad Kreuznach destination also includes the Felseneremitage in Bretzenheim. This place of worship, carved entirely into the rock, probably dates back to prehistoric times and was repurposed in the early Christian period. It can be visited from the outside year-round, without a guided tour. Entry to the rock dwelling is currently not possible due to a rockfall.
